My first appts at MMPC

Kelly, I had the same guy -- the whole thing freaked me out, and I changed who I had my second psych eval with (try to get Laura, she is great).  Also, I told Dr. Kemmeter about that experience with SG, I was even crying, because frankly I thought that since I am not a Christian I would not be approved for the surgery.  I thought he held that much power over my approval.  Dr. Kemmeter took it very seriously, and immediately had me speak with the practice manager.  I was told that all of that had been dealt with previously and would be dealt with again (obviously that was all lip service).  But, if you want her contact info, just PM me and I will send it off to you.  Mention it to the surgeon though -- it is their practice that is being compromised. Also, I have PH.  Of course policies are different, but mine covered the DS with no problem -- very quickly actually.  If you have any questions for someone that had the DS, just let me know.  I am 4 months out, and could not have made a better decision on the surgery type that best fits the life I wanted after surgery. Even though I can't really say that many great things about MMPC (the staff does not understand the DS post-op), I can without a doubt say that you are in EXCELLENT surgical hands!  I had no hesitation in trusting any one of the surgeons, and I think that appointment will go much better for you!

I can totally relate to how you felt!  Same thing happened to me. I was Totally set on the idea of the VSG- then  I was told by Dr. Gawell that my insurance (BCBS of MIch) has changed criteria for coverage effective 01/08. (And unfortunately I don't meet the criteria.) Dr. Foote was very willing to try to appeal. But after speaking with the pre-op coordinator for Dr. Foote (Renee)- I don't feel that the insurance company will budge. I have nothing out of the ordinary that would stand out as an "exception". (I considered the lap band procedure- but it's not for me...) So anyway- now I'm researching the RN-Y procedure. I have the same concerns about re-routing "the plumbing."  I was less fearful of the VSG... but realize both are major surgery.  I've just finished WLS for Dummies ,and am currently reading Exodus from Obesity by Paula Peck.  Both somewhat helpful....... But it's such a personal journey for each of us. I'll be anxious to read the responses you get- I'm like you- I want to be at peace with my decision.   Take Care. I wish you the best..  .

Hi Kelly, I have PH and was sleeved with insurance coverage, on 4/1/08 with Dr. Foote!!!! I'm not sure if you've read PH's obesity policy but it states that VSG is covered only if the patient is not a candidate for any other surgery due to bowel resection.....or is non-desirous of another WLS. I occasionally take NSAIDS for early arthritis and was not desirous of another type of WLS.  Approved without problems!!!! You may want to look into this a little further because they do cover it!!!! Best wishes, and keep us informed!!!!

WOW I had the exact same experience with Scott.  I'm a believer, but let ME mention what *I* want to talk about.. dont bring it up to me.  I thought, if I did not say i belived he would say I was not approved and what not.  I was extremely uncomfortable talking to him about that.  You are rignt.. what does my religion preferance have to do with me having WLS.  As said above.. I believe, but there are just some things I do not discuss.. Religion and Politics!  Everyone has their own opinion and it generally ends up in a debate.. and a Dr office is NOT a place for such.  I think if everyone that was uncomfortable with him reported him, he would not be there to make others feel how we felt.  There is one lady on here, that thinks he is the one that was in charge of stalling her surgery for months and months.  Please dont let this one bad time get you to think negative thoughts about MMPC.  All of them are really great.. .Well i had another encounter with one of the Dr's.  She was rude to me.. and I was not appreciative of her.  She was the 1st one I seen, but I went back, because I heard wondeful things about the place.  Some of the front desk girls can get a little snooty, but I can handle them youngins!  I'm just over 6 months out, and I just love all of them there.. well with an acception of the two I mentioned.  Good luck to you on your insurance approval for VSG.  Dont give up! Jodi :O)
