I went to my initial consultation yesterday with Dr RoseMarie Jones at the Saint Vincent Carmel hospital in Carmel, Indiana. I had a great time and the doctor said that I was a great candidate for the surgery. I have scheduled a psychological evaluation for April 17th in the evening. Dr Jones said that she will be preparing everything to send to the insurance company so that it will be ready to go when the evaluation is done. She called me a "Could be poster child" for this which made me feel very good. I am still a bit worred as the person who works with the insurance said that BCBSM requires 6 months doctor supervised diet, which I don't have. I still haven't gotten any confirmation that it will be waived with my BMI over 50.

Congrats on getting the wheels turning.  I hope they (insurance) get with it and waive your 6 months diet.  :)

I also had BCBS and when I started planning on having surgery the requirement was 12 months... then they changed it this year to 6 months... my doctor sent me to a dietician monthly and February was my 6th month so now I qualify.  I have my psych eval next week and MDD day in beginning of May.  If you can't get the waiver from BCBS, the 6 months should go by pretty quickly... at least it seemed to for me.  I wish you good luck!

keep working on it.. there is no requirement for a 6-month postop diet with someone over 50 bmi for BCBS. your surgeon may have that requirement.. but the insurance does not. i had my initial consultation on feb 4 and will be having surgery in just a few days.. so you should not have to do the diet unless required by the surgeon.
