HELP from Lap Banders

1st, I am 1 month out from RNY; Feeling Great!.  My wife had LB Friday. Sent her home today. VERY uncomfortable. Say's "gas pain" is horrible. I realize it is the first night.... Tell me... so I can tell her, it will get better. Also, Doc said she could return to work Monday (72 hrs after surgery??). I don't think I will let her, even if she feels up to it. Tell me what to tell her to expect in this first coming week post lap band, PLEASE. Thanks to all in advance!!! Tim from TC... 38 lbs lighter since late February....

I haven't been banded yet. But I can tell you from what I read this is very common to have bad gas pains. Alot of people say 72hours is enough, but also heard some say they had to wait 2 weeks!  The procedure is different for everyone because of the the factors.  What kind of lap surgeon you have, what kind of of band you got put in, how your body handles the band and so on. If you or her haven't yet, I would suggest asking this on www.lapbandtalk.com.  I love it here, but for information about lap bands you can't beat there.

I am 4 days out and every day gets better and better.  The more walking and sipping and breathing exercises she does will help work the gass out.  The pain meds also help even though they taste terrible.  A heating pad helped too.  I would not want to go back to work after 72 hours but some people do depending on their jobs and their healing levels.  Wishing her a quick recovery. 

hi, i had the lapband done march 4 2008 and i to had alot of gas. tell her to get up and walk around, that helped me alot, or burp, i know that sounds gross, but it helps alot. tell her to not lay down when she gets it, stand up so it goes down. taking her pain meds will help her alot to. im down 22 lbs since march 4 and its the best thing thats happen to me. tell her it gets better once your over the liquid hump. ive gotten my first fill to and its not bad at all. ok well if she wants to keep intouch with me, tell her to go to my page. ok good luck to both of you!!! god bless
