What can I do??
I am in the very early stages of preparing for weightloss surgery. I have not yet completely decided on a surgeon, and I don't know if I will need any money. I want to start changing my eating habits now though. I figured it would make the transition easy for me afterwards. Does anyone have any suggestions for foods that I can eat?? Does any one recommend surgeons in the detroit area?? I need your help Michigan...
My surgeon, Dr. Schuhknecht, moved to the St. Joseph area. His partner is still in the area and worked on me for my plastics and is a great surgeon and a great guy. I would recommend him for anyone. I would trust him with the lives of any of my family members. His name is Dr. Kerry Kole.
He has two offices. He is very accessible and will take great care of you.
Good luck.

Edit because I am stupid and forgot to answer the other part of your question,,,
Read profiles and see what they do at about one month out.
Try samples of protein products.
Get used to the idea of eating six small meals a day very slowly.
Practice putting your fork or spoon down between bites for three minutes then four etc,,,,,,
Learn to carry a water bottle everywhere.
Eat things without bread including burgers and sandwiches.
Try soy milk
Start a walking regimen twice a week.
Learn to park far away and walk to your destination.
Start keeping a diary of your intake.
Make a list of questions for your cutter.
Figure out what you are going to tell your family and friends when they question your decision.

Thank you so much. I am printing out your response to help me. Explaining this to my family and friends is proving to be very hard. I guess everyone is really worried about surgery. They say they're behind me but i can tell they wish I wouldn't do it. They all go, "just diet" like I have never tried that before.
As far as the food thing goes, I am still learning too, But thanks kevin for posting that, it will help her and I as well as many others...
I don't have a surgeon yet but I am realy considering Dr. Carlin or Dr. Genaw, they both work out of Henry Ford in Detroit. From the things I read and heard they are both very good.
There is another dr that works out of Harper, but I am unsure of his name, but at the top on the main page you can click find a bariatric surgeon and then there is a way to search for one for your area. That is how I found the drs I am considering...
Good luck!

I am also considering the Henry Ford Dr's. I had both of my kids at henry ford and I was born there as well. Seems like a sign of good things. I signed up for their online medicine. I am waiting for my password so I can get my appointments started. I am worried because I don't have a PCP to tell me to go, so I am looing for that as well. I only talk to my GYN. He's a good friend of mine but I dont know if they will accept his notes as proof of my conditions.
Just an FYI,
The doctors on this site pay to be listed here. They aren't necessarily the only docs in your area.
If you're not too far, check out the U of M program in Ann Arbor. I would suggest going to a few orientations just so you can get a feel for the different programs.
Find out your insurance info. and then start walking! The better shape you're in on the day of surgery the better your recovery will be.
Practice chewing everything 30 times and not drinking with your meal. If you drink pop, now would be a good time to stop.
Keep checking in here for ideas....you'll be well prepared when you finalize your plans for surgery.
