Got my initial consultation scheduled!
RNY on 12/18/12
It is at Saint Vincent Carmel Hospital in Carmel Indiana on April 9 at 9:30 AM.
I called the BCBSM again today to ask specifically about the BMI over 50 and the man said that my specific information would have to be sent in by my surgeon, and they would determine that at that point. I am still hoping for the 6 month diet to be waived due to my BMI of 57, but still haven't gotten anyone from my insurance company to confirm that.
Aside from not being able to get confirmation on that, I am very excited to get to the initial consultation, and get things going whether I'll have to go through a 6 month diet first or not. Please keep me in your prayers.

No, unfortunately I don't have anything documented. I was always the kid who would try everything right along with my mom, but never the one actually officially in the program. My mom has been dieting my entire life (she finally had RNY 2 years ago). When she did weigh****chers, richard simmons deal a meal, atkins, or whatever the pill of the month was I also did it along with her for my entire life. Unfortunately none of this was ever documented. It takes money to actually be an official part of these programs, and I'm short on that as was she.
I do have a family full of morbidly obese people (mom, 2 sisters, dad, aunt, 3 uncles, grandma and grandpa) are all morbidly obese. I have been overweight since I was in elementary school, and I suppose I could dig up those awful pictures as proof of that, but that's about it. I don't have any co-morbidities (although I've never been tested for any so maybe I do). I do however, have a family full of people with comorbidities such as, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, bad knees, veins that have busted (don't know the medical term for this), etc. Maybe to no help for me, I am still young, 25, and have been a stay at home mom so far. I also have a very good supportive husband and great children. I think that maybe my lack of these conditions thus far may have something to do with my low stress level at home.
I did graduate with an Associates in Science and recently became certified in Indiana as a phlebotomist, but haven't been able to find a job. Yes, I've had interview after interview with no job offer at the end. I have suspicions that this is because of my weight and not my ability. I don't know if the insurance will consider this as a factor.
Hi have you had any test ran for any co-morbs, because I had a sleep study done and didnt know I had sleep apnea , and I now require a c-pap, that is probably ome of the biggest co-morbs that get you approved thats what got me approved my bmi is now 38 I have arthritis in my knees urine incon. like when you sneeze, gerd, (heart burn) back pain there are alot of co-morbs that are out there that count, really start doing your home work now, insurence can be terrible, It has been a year long journy for me, look up a site maybe you can find some co-morbs that relate to you, there are quite a few try to find a list I am not sure where to look but if I find one I will let ya know, that baby in the pic is a little doll!! take care! rebecca I just recieved my approval letter for med. necessity today! yay
I'm new to this but can tell you what I did. I got my approval in 5 weeks from when my sleep study was completed and I was issued my C pap machine.
I too have battled weight all my life and when I went in for the consult with a psyche, I told him I was on the slim fast, medifast, tried diet pills, the whole nine yards. He wrote down what I told him and WOW!!! I have a date for surgery.
BCBS with 6 months documented weight program and a BMI over 50 is a gaurenteed approval ( this is what the nurse at Ypsi clinic told me). I could not tell you if Indiana BCBS is the same.
Good luck to you and I hope your surgery comes as fast as mine!
