I'm interested in the lap-band procedure.  My PCP referred me to Dr Krause.  I'm reading all the previous posts and I was wondering if anyone know of a way to bypass or speed up the process.  I have small children and cannot go through a 4 month program before the inital surgery.  My BMI is 34? or 35?.

Wait for Dr Krause, he saved my life 5 years ago.  The Beaumont program is great, the support  groups and follow up are well worth it. I had RYN and did well, I have a friend that had a Lap Band and he can "eat" around his band.  You also need "fills' every few months and that costs $$$. I wish you the best,,                                    Robin

For those of you that have already undergone the lap band procedure...Did you have to stay overnight or was the procedure done outpatient?  Also, what was the side effects afterwards?

I am 8 days out from laparasopic roux-en-y surgery at Beaumont in Royal Oak.  It was a terrific experience.  Yes, terrific.  Mild pain was easily controlled, the staff was fabulous..we actually had a few laughs...and I came home  approx 24 hours after the surgery.  I couldn't have asked for better care.  Had a teeny bit of bleeding where the scope was inserted above my navel.  With butterfly bandage and some sterile pads, once I figured out how to definitely close it up, the bleeding stopped in a day.

Being the skeptic that I am, I figured everybody had to be on drugs tonsay they weren't hungry after they came home.  The are absolutely right. I'm obsessed with food, but I'm not all tat hungry.  It';s remarkable that the meager amount of food that I MUST eat does a better-than-expected job of actually filling me up.

If there's anyone out there who is the least bit on the fence about having this surgery. GET OVER IT!  It's a piece of cake so far.  GO see Dr. David Chengelis and just do it.

I am going to Beaumont right now on the all shake diet.  I am over 400lbs and have Aetna PPO insurance.  I am being told that I have to be on a diet for over a year.  I do suffer from depression, but I am being treated by medication.  Can I get this surgery?  I am just wondering

Scott, I had Aetna when I had my surgery. Only needed 6 months,  and Aetna
gave us a nurse to help coordinate things. Get a note book and a brand new
pen, Call your Primary care, find out how many times and dates you spoke
with them about weight loss and what they recomended for you. Write down
any and all medications you had taken including Rx and Over the counter.
I am sure that you have used atleast 1 other diet plan in your whole life.
write it down with dates, Call Aetna and get a coordinator. They will talk you
through it.
You need comorbidities. High blood pressure, diabites, lyphmidema, Sleep
apnea. There are others also.
Dont give up. Call Aetna and get that coordinator so you are not missing
anything. Very frustrating to go to your doctor once a month to talk about
weight loss and they didnt document it. So you have to start over.

The Shake diet at Beumont, Is it still the HMR shakes? When I looked at
the ingredients they had a lot of sugar in them. So they were setting me
up to fail with thier shake business.
 Good luck

Hi I am new to this phase of the weight loss journey. I am anxious, excited, terrified and panicked all at once right now. I am starting Beaumont's Weight Control diet tomorrow.  I am trying so hard not to set myself up to fail. Im terrified of sugery and really want the diet to work. I am trying not to feed into the negative things some have said, but it just scares me more. My husband and I are doing this together which will gelp with support but, I am also afraid the price is going to get out of hand. Any positive feedback would greatly appreciated.  Either way I need help. I want to  be healthy and a mother and losing this weight is the only way.

I had Gastric Bypass Surgery with Dr Krause at Beaumont Hospital March 25th 2008 and it has been the best decission of my life. The total program at beaumont is fantastic. I have lost over 170 lbs since then beginning at 459 lbs and going from a size 66 pants to a size 40. I am still losing and doing great with very few problems. Any problems I have had were a small price to play for getting my life back. I will gladly answer any question anyone else has about my experience.
