Thanks for the reply Randy.  I talked to Hurley Bariatrics today and they make me order  a 4 week liguid diet that has everything in it some sort of shakes, puddings, and soups.  I don't get any home cooked meats or anything as far as I know.  It is a bit pricey but it will be worth it.  It looks like you had a good variety. Take Care.

I had too. It was not as hard as I thought it would be. I have never found a protein drink I thought was any good! Good Luck!

Tracy, Have you tried the EAS AdvantEdge shakes?  They come in 4 and 6 packs and you can get them at WalMart...Chocolate, French Vanilla, and Strawberry.  They run about $5 for the 4-pack.  They are smooth, creamy, and I think they taste the best of all the yucky ones out there.  The texture is not gritty or foamy at all and served real cold, it's a treat.  An 11 ounce container has 17gm protein and no sugar, 1 carb.  That's all I drink when it comes to protein supplements.

I did Hurley's 2 week liquid diet.  Lost 15 pounds.  The first 4 days are brutal and you think you want to die... but after day 4 you turn a corner and figure out that it's not that bad after all.  I really believe that this 2 weeks on liquids helped me be more successful after surgery.  I was able to cleanse my system of the sugar and carb addictions and start to deal with the head hunger issues.  And surprisingly you're not really all that hungry on this thing.  (At least I wasn't.) This is what you'll get in the kit for each day: 3 protein shakes per day 1 soup/broth per day 1 flavored fiber drink per day On the last day you'll be restricted to 7 protein shakes only (no broth). I personally thought the shakes were fine.  Not fabulous, but also not hidious either.  If I was mixing it at home I'd do it with milk and some ice cubes to make it the consistency of a Wendy's Frosty.  If I was mixing it at work, I'd put my cup of milk in the freezer for 30 minutes before I mixed it with the powder -- it came out like ice milk sorta.   The soups were horrible!  Truly horrible.  I ate them for a few days then gave up and went to normal broth that you buy in the store.  Or just had soup that was strained of any chunks.   Tasted much better.  And it's not like their powdered soups had anything special in it (like high protein).   The fiber drinks were alright.  Helps keep things moving, I guess.  I thought that the price for what we got was a bit outrageous (I paid $146).  But what can you do... it's required.  I tried to convince them I didn't need to buy special stuff that I could just do the protein powder I had at home, but they didn't want any of that.  Who knows. Good luck! Pam

Thanks for the info, it was just what I was looking for.  I have to do the 2 weeks post surgery too so it cost me $249.00.  I also asked if I could do my own and they said no, except after surgery I can do my own protien shakes if I want. Like you said what are you gonna do?  Thanks again for the info, have a good one.  Patti

My doctor requires a month of Optifast prior to surgery :(  But I agree that it is also a way to prepare you for how your eating will change after surgery.

I am feeling like an old-timer. I had my surgery almost 4 years ago through Hurley. Back in the old days it was just 2 days of clear liquids to clean out the bowel. Good luck on your liquid diet and remember that anything worth having is worth the work!
Surgery Day Weight  314
Lowest 174 (for about 5 minutes)
Goal Weight 180
Current 200 (Highest post-op after re-gain was 225, but I am back on track!!!!)
