question about michigan primaries...
All of the Republican candidates will be on the ballot for the primary, however....
Tuesday, January 15
Michigan's jump to mid-January triggered shifts by Iowa and New Hampshire. The Republican National Committee voted to deprive Michigan of half its delegates because its contest will fall before Feb. 5.
Because of the "shift" in primary dates, that many states have done this year, the DNC and RNC have deprived some or all of their delegates to these states. BUT....
Tuesday, February 5
More than 20 states have scheduled their contests for the earliest date allowed by the party without penalty.
So...I guess it's subjective according to the whim of the DNC and the RNC...
OK...I'm editing myself to say that the states were penalized that went AHEAD of the Feb.5 date as the earliest date they could hold a primary, not based on the WHIM of the DNC or RNC! Didn't mean to misrepresent any info!

They weren't late. The candidates CHOSE to withdraw, so as not to go against the DNC, which is "punishing" the state for moving its primary ahead of the Feb 5. date. by withdrawing ALL of its delegates from the MI primary. RNC is withdrawing only 50% of its delegates because of the early primary.
All of this changing took place back in the fall of 07...maybe earlier. I know it's been being debated since then.
