Priority Health and Surgeon Evaluation Authorization
Has anyone been denied for their surgeon EVALUATION by Priority Health? I have to first get this "Authorization for bariatric surgery EVALUATION" approved. Then I can see Dr. Foote.
My PCP sent a letter to PH before I had a chance to read it and I am hoping it is enough. It states my BMI and my sleep problem, and that I have lost a significant amount of weight and regained on a medically supervised diet.
Any thoughts or comments on this? I am posting here because PH is a Michigan based ins. co.
Thanks,
Thanks Deborah,
I see a little hope in your post that your surgeon's office helped get auth. for you to see them! Since I am already a long time patient at my surgeon's office, if I get denied, that is the route I will take.
I will actually make my PCP's office do some work also since they're the ones who submitted without my 1/2 of the request. Actually, I think I will end up writing a very specific letter for them.
Have a good one,

I wasn't denied for the evaluation per se....however, Priority denied my wls request twice and would only approve the medical program (which I completed twice)...it was very frustrating. I'll try to make this short...I was having other issues (especially with GERD) and since Dr. Foote and my doctor have a good relationship my doctor referred me to Dr. Foote to be evaluated for the other surgery but he wanted me to see him at the weight loss clinic. When I met with him--he advocated for wls. I also had other doctors submit info. to Priority...my gastro and sleep medicine doctor in particular as I figured more info. was better than not enough. Not sure if this is helpful for you...I just wanted to give you a potential option and some hope for a positive outcome. Good luck!
