New policy for Blue Cross of Michigan

I am a retired state of michigan employee and that is the coverage that I elected.  SOM just stands for state of michigan.  I think I will call them back next week and see what they tell me then.  It could be that the insurance representative didn't know of the change in policy.  Can keep my fingers crossed.  My twelve months are up in March anyway so not that much longer to wait.  Just am not a patient person.  Plus I haven't made up my mind which surgery to have.  Am between the lapband and the VSG.  I need to contact my pcp and see which one he recommends.

Don't rely on your PCP for advice; most likely he/she will know very little about the VSG.  You will have to do your own research or ask your bariatric surgeon. Mark Pleatman MD www.laparoscopy.com/pleatman

I had the vsg surgery in August and have lost 60 lbs in 4 months.  I am very happy with the results and I think the complications are minimal.  Yes my stomach will strtch eventually but I dont have to go in to have the band filled or adjusted.  Do your research i think you will also see the benefits to vsg. I also called BCBS and they haven't seen any changes yet with the insurance. I have the same insurance as you do since I work for the State of Michigan. So I am hoping it will get changed soon. I keep calling but nothing yet.
