Thanks for clarifying that.  One of the reasons I asked was because two different women in my support group had open procedures and had major difficulties.  When I asked them why they had chosen open, they said, "Because that's the only option my surgeon gave me."  They never knew there were other options because they didn't research.  Lucky for us, we have OH to help us in our research. Thanks for answering and best of luck to you on your journey, Jenn

Without reading the other posts I'll start with saying that WLS is a very personal decision and everyone here has their own reasons for choosing the surgery they did, but we should all remember we're here for a common reason and goal.  1. because we're fat 2. we want to lose weight!! Here's why I chose lapband, or rather why I felt RNY wasn't right for me: 1. The words "intestinal rerouting" left a bad taste in my mouth. 2. I didn't need to change my eating all that much, just change the amount. 3. Malapsorption is scary to me.  Maybe just because I'm medicine...but I've seen what it can do to your body over time and I didn't feel ok with it for me. 4.  It took me 18 years to get as fat as I was, I don't need to get skinny super fast. 5. Rapid weight loss wasn't all that appealing.  My doctors have always told me a safe rate of loss is 1-2lbs per week.  I'm losing 1-2lbs consistantly. 6.  I don't care for protien drinks and supplements. 7.  I love my sweets!  The great thing about the band is, I can eat ANYTHING I want, just a small portion!! Anyhoo, that's the short of it.  I researched WLS for 2 years before commiting to LapBand, and it was a commitment.  I decided based on information available to me that if I couldn't have the band, I would have no surgery at all. Best of luck in your search Linda!! ~Laura

Thank you so much for your great reply.  I know it is a scary decision, that is why I asked my guestion.  I too have researched it for quite a while, my problem is that I develop so many allergies that I am afraid that I might develop an allergy to the band material.  But I am going to be tested to see if I have a response to it. Thank you again Linda

I'm sensitive to a lot of things on my skin too, including most adhesives, fragrances and dyes. I haven't had any issues to speak of, good luck!!

Have you looked at the new Lap band by J and J  called the Realize Lap-Band. You would have to go to Dr. jon Schram at Barix since he is the only Surgeon current using the new band but you might look at that band, alot of people due not know about it yet in the us.
