Info on Dr. Gluck visit
I had my surgery with Dr. Gluck on November 26th. I can tell you that Dr. Gluck is a great surgeon *****ally cares about the health and success of his patients. The psych. exam was done at his office, but on a different date. I scheduled my psych visit and my Upper G.I. all on the same day so I would not have to take an extra day off from work.
The Psych Doctor that Dr. Gluck's office recommends is very nice, and I got the feeling that she was very supportive of weight loss surgery. I hope that helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

No, I saw Dr. Gluck for my initial visit, and then I was required to schedule my visit for the psych. evaluation for a later date. The girls at the desk scheduled my psych evaluation for me, but it was for a week or two later. You may be able to get ahead of the game by calling Dr. Glucks office and asking to schedule your psych evaluation as soon as possible. Does your insurance require you to do a six month physician supervised diet as well? My insurance required that, and I started it right away.
Mine requires a 1 year Dr. supervised diet, which I don't have, BUT my husband spoke to someone at the insurance company which stated that a letter reccomending urgency would override that. The letter I got from my physician says, "The sooner the better for the surgery." I hope that is enough urgency. I am really worried now about my diet history. Who keeps track of what diet they did when and what the results were??? I've been dieting since I was 10! How am I supposed to rememeber when I did each one and how they worked and what I gained back?!?!? Pray for me please!
I will pray for you. The best thing to do is to just try to remember as much about your diet history as you can. Also, if you have co-morbidities like sleep apnea, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc., those sometimes help you to get approved faster. Have you ever been to weigh****chers? My co-worker had all of her signed weigh****cher records, and the insurance company accepted those as her supervised diet.
Enjoy the seminar tonight. It is very informative and the Dr. will explain about the different surgery options. You will also be able to schedule a consulation appointment right away.
Please let me know how it goes, I am pulling for you.

I went to the seminar last night (the only time they've had it on Wednesday, but the Dr. wanted to go see Hanna Montana with his boys tonight! LOL!). It's the second time I've been. My fear about being approved by the insurance company kept me from following through last time, but now I have BCBS which I heard is way better for getting approved. I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I am hoping that is enough to push me over the edge. Thank you so much for the support guys. I came home last night destraught and convinced I'd never get approved, but my husband reminded me, I have God on my side. Praise HIM!!! :) My husband is so sweet he said he's never gonna let me go to anything for this surgery alone again (he went to the first seminar, but had to work last night). He is coming with me to my inital consult today. The fee was quoted as $250 at the seminar last night, but when I set up my appointment before that they said $200, so I am hoping they will stick to that figure. That's all I have!
BCBS is good for getting approved. Do you have BCBS/Michigan or is it another state? I had BCBS of PA and they approved without any hassles. I think they will accept the $200 for the fee. If not then maybe you can give them the $200 and pay the other $50 later.
It sounds like you have a lot of support from your husband, so that will make things easier for you. Let me know how your initial consult goes today, and remember to try and schedule your psych exam and upper GI if they will do that. The sooner you get going, the better.
Talk to you soon,

They only charged me $200. It's as of Jan 1st it's $250. It went very well! I have lost 5 pounds. Turns out there is no pre-approval for my surgery. They just do it and the insurance pays for it. I was concerned cause I would be liable if the insurance turned it down, but they said the letter from my Dr. should be enough. I am so excited. Psych eval and dietitian on Jan 10th. Then I don't know what, I think they consult with the insurance co. If I have to wait for the insurance I may be looking at April or May, if not could be as early as March I would think. Dr. Says he is schedualling as far out as 2 months. Praise God!! He is with me! Thanks for all your help, it was a little scary taking the first step, but I am motivated for the follow through.

It sounds like you have Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan. If you do then yes, there is no pre-authorization, and Dr. Glucks office works very well with this insurance. You are going to have the surgery! You have one of the easier insurances to work with from what I have heard.
Keep going, and keep having faith......this will happen for you.
