What type of exercise is expected right after surgery?  And can you use an elliptical (mix between stair stepper and treadmill) or is that too much on the tummy muscles?

I just did lots of walking on my treadmill... not sure what else you can do, I would talk to the doctor or the dietician before doing anything to make sure that your regimen fits with what they want you to be doing...  Best of luck to you.... HUGS,

When I went through Hurley 2+ years ago, walking was all they allowed RIGHT after surgery.  I was cleared to return to the gym around 8 weeks (which was when they cleared me for weights and swimming).  So I would ask them for sure.  I know there have been changes since I had my surgery with Dr. Farhan.  I'm sure they will let you know, if you ask!  Good luck!  Tina

Walking was about all they allowed.  Basically because while your outside heals pretty fast, your inside does not.   They say nothing too strenous on the abs.   You should check with your surgeon though.

I was told nothing more strenuous than walking.  I was also told to be on "light activity" for normal activities.... when I asked what that means, the nurse told me "limit bending and stretching and no vacuuming and no raking leaves."  And when I don't follow those "no bending or stretching" rules, I can definitely feel the strain in my abs which quickly makes me behave.  We're also on a 5 lbs lifting restriction for 6 weeks.
