Man- you are pretty brave to do all that in 3 surgeries. After my TT- this is my only plastic surgery I am having!!! LOL Guess I am a wuss and the drains are the worst! I have 1 left and hoe to get it out Saturday!!!
Best wishes-
Shannon
Oh- I am 3 yrs out. I waited this long to make sure I was at my lowest weight. Plus like I said earlier- I am a wuss. i had my surgery scheduled in June but cancelled it..lol
Elisa,
I see that you are not even 9 months post op.....all I can say is WAIT!...at least a 3 - 6 months. Not because your weight will change, but because your body needs time to adjust and heal.
I was below goal, so went ahead and had my TT (and hernia repair) within days of my first anniversary of my RNY. I had a very rough (twice re-hospitalized) recovery from that.....not really complications, just slow healing. It also triggered weight loss (and does for alot of people) and I was getting dangerously thin. When I went to see my RNY surgeon he said that I wast putting my body through alot of trauma in a short amount of time. There was the initial "trauma" of the RNY, the continuous weight loss and shifting that goes along with that, and then I put my body through the "major earth quake" of the hernia repair/TT surgery....so it made sense that it was struggling to handle that. He recommends waiting til 18 months post-op before considering other surgery.
Initially I was going to have more plastics, but I had such a rough ride with the TT, it scared that notion away! So....if you intend to have 3 major plastic surgeries, I encourage you to give your body plenty of healing time between them all.
Good luck...and hey..great work!! Congratulations on your weight loss!!
Kathy
Thank you!! I am sorry you such a hard time!! I am planing on waiting until April or May that willbe 1 yr from wls and then have the first ne I figured it would take me about 2-3 yrs to complete all surgeries Ihave to self pay so I canonly do it when I have $$$ saved up!! and my body needs major recooping!!!
thnx hun
I waited 3 years as well, not because I am a wuss, but insurance approval, and there was a requirement to have maintained weight loss for over 1 year. I am glad I waited, my body changed several different times and ways over the 3 years, not just in pounds, but in disposition of skin and stuff. I say it is up to you though. It was a painful surgery, and yes the drains were a pain, but I would do it again, and more if I could afford it. Good luck Carol
okay.. kind of a newbie here... just over a month out.. so when you say "back" and Tush... what is "back"?? and I am guessing Tush is your butt?? How do they do that? I'm clue less and I'm sure I am going to need EVERY think lifted and tucked and inplanted!! Could you direct in the right direction of knowing what all this means...
THanks!
"Back" skin...some folks have an apron of loose skin on their back after massive weight loss. My step-son has alot of it because he was so big to start with. He will need a circumferential body lift, as well as arms and butt. He is only 21 years old but let me tell you, he looks fantastic already, even with his loose skin. His highest weight was 560 and he's down to 300 now. He's not even considering plastics until he gets down to 240 or so, and maintains for at least 6 months. From what I can gather, most insurances that WILL cover TT (at least) want your weight to stablize(sp?) for 6 months to a year before plastics. Not in my case...I had mine 1 year and 1 month post RNY due to the skin breakdown and rashes, infections, etc. so it was medically necessary.
I had TT and Breast Reduction at the same time. I decided against the arms because 1.) Insurance doesn't cover it, and 2.) Healing is slower and my PS said my arm skin really isn't that bad and the scarring from surgery would be extensive. I'd rather keep the skin than have thick, rope-like scars on my arms. A mini-lift might be in the future, but probably not. I can handle what I have.
It just depends on the person and how they want to look...I am not concerned about butt skin, it's not that bad and it all looks fine in clothes, and since I am married and hubby doesn't freak out, then all is good. He had the surgery and has the loose butt too so we are ok with it. I am satisfied at this point.
