I had a greenfield filter placed right before my surgery.  I have a family history of blood clots and on a blood test I was Protein C deficient.  The procedure was fairly simple-they give u some meds where u are awake but don't feel anything (versaid) and they went thru my groin to place it. I still have it- never removed it.  I feel safe with it in me...as I just had a tummy tuck. Best wishes Shannon

Hi, I had a grenfield filter put in a week before my surgery. They went through my neck. I was scared but I didn't feel a thing. Nothing!!! It is just incase of blood clots to catch them till they dissolve from what I understand so they can't get into your lungs etc. if you google greenfield filter you can see more info on it. And they dont remove it but it's m.r.i. safe  and thats good for me because I have one once a year. Hope this helped

My husband had one placed the same day they did the bariatric surgery.  He was able to have it removed 2 weeks later.  He said he didn't feel a thing. Jenn

I have a filter... I was worried before I had mine as well, but I did fine and all is still well with it... I don't have a clue it is there.... I carry a card with my driver's license, so that in an emergency those that need to know, know it is there... but I am sure the doctors would not want you to have one if they didn't feel you needed one.. best of luck to you..... I was worried about having a filter implanted, but there was nothing to it.  They went in through my groin, and it was a little tender for a day or so, but you would never know I have one.  It will just be with me permanently. Good luck with your pre-op diet, you can do it. Debra M.
