Cost idea?
VSG on 04/16/14
Well I called my insurance company and good news!
YES they cover Bariatric Surgeries WOOHOO
But they only cover 80%
Any hints on how much these surgeries cost?
So I know "about" how much 20% is going to cost me out of pocket?
Thanks a bunch!!

Depending on what kind of surgery, which doctor and hospital you choose, etc. Surgery ranges anywhere between $18,000 to $35,000. Best bet is to call the bariatric facility and try to get a better ballpark figure from them directly.
But also remember to calculate additional costs like dr visit co-pays, pre-op liquid diet (mine cost $146), psych evaluation, additional medical tests like sleep study, EKG, bloodwork, etc.
Something I didn't plan on was the Rx co-pays after surgery. I was put on 2 new meds post-op and also got a couple more for recovery (pain meds and anti-nausea). Co-pays cost me $50 as soon as I walked out of the hospital.
Also consider all the supplements. Even though I already had a multi-vitamin and calcium tabs, I needed to go out and buy chewable versions. Also added B-12 and Vit C and Iron. All those extras came at one single hit too.
