Hey everyone.... What are y'all doing for Thanksgiving?  No, I don't mean where are you going, but what are you going to eat? Do you have to cook for everyone?  What are your strategies for not going overboard? If you're a newbie, how are you going to cope with that "I want to eat what everyone else is eating" feeling? If you're an "oldie" why don't you share some of your tips with us?

I'm going to reply to my own post! I'm making a sf pumpkin pie for me to eat (probably not the whole thing).  I think everything in moderation is the key.  I have never had a problem with Thanksgiving because I'm a fast food junkie, and home-made stuff just doesn't do it for me.  I plan on just being smart about what I eat, walking a lot (does shopping count?) and not bringing home any left over desserts, no matter how mad the boys get at me.

Well this is going to be the first FOOD holiday since I had surgery and I am in charge of making pies and getting plates.. I am going to get the ones with sections. so I will get some turkey and some fresh veggies. and I will probably put food on my plate that I will not eat ( I have found that if I do this people don't say as much about how less I am eatting), If they see the food on the plate they don't say Ohh you poor thing you can only eat that much....lol.... Some family members know my secret.....but it seems to help keep attention off of me.. But some family members have not seen me since last Jan. so they will be shocked when they see me.....

Ohh does anyone have a good SF recipe for a pumpkin cheesecake Pie????

Crystal, I made this pie/cheesecake with home made whipped cream made with cream, a little splenda and cinnamon.  Oh my go**** was so good, you just need one little dab.  I know you can use sf cool whip, but that is all corn syrup.

Hi Brenda, I have to work (tv doesnt stop because the pilgrims set foot on us soil) so I am at wor****il 4pm.  Then I am going to get my Chinese Foreign students who I am working with this semester and they are coming to my house for dinner.  I am hoping to have turkey breast, stuffing and mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie plus green bean casserole.  I usually take a small plate - like about 5 inches in diameter and put about 3 spoonfuls of everything except mashed potatoes.  I put about 7 servings of those!!!!!!! How I don't over do it is just eat a bite, chew it up and chat and talk.  Enjoy the company more than the food. I will not miss a big dinner- it just doesn't impress me like it use to. Hope yours is happy!! Stacey W

I dunno, I'm trying to avoid the whole holiday but may get dragged out to dinner.  I'll probably skip the food part, I'm not crazy about the restaurant being considered.  Anyone want to run away to White Castle? Not cooking, the boys are partial to Science Diet kibble and nobody else wants to eat my cooking. Stay away from the pool.  No, really, if I have show up at a public meal with lots of temptation, I  eat before it, and drink hot tea or  decaff coffee or water.  People seem to get that I either eat or drink, never both so they leave the issue alone.  When I was a newbie, the feeling of not wanting to get sick for an audience helped me cope.  Really, I was never sure how food was going to sit, especially if I chewed and talked at the same time.  By the time I realized that I didn't throw up anymore, the newer habits were (mostly) in place. As an oldie, I try to consider my new underwear size before I swallow that next bite, at least usually.   Unfortunately, food is still a self-reward, but a reward of whole wheat pretzels, chicken breast and salsa gets tiring.
