Complete Failure

Hello, I had my RnY over 5 years ago.  I never made it to goal and had many complications. I feel most of this was due to the poor care I received in the hospital and had absolutely no after care.

I have always felt the surgery never worked.

I am now regaining, up to 50 pounds back now.  I feel devastated. Sick all the time, depressed even thoughts of suicide have entered my mind.  I never want to be 400 pounds again.

I am panicking.

I need to know what I can do and where can I go to get some help.  Is there anything out there that can help me? I live in Holland Michigan now and I understand they do the surgery. I hope some one can help me...I'm alone and just don't know where to turn. Penny

Penny please call the Bariatric Surgeons of Michigan in Detroit and ask for their expert help.  Maybe a revision?  I don't know.  I just want you to stop thinking about ending it all.

With all the modern science available now, there must be somethng that can be done to prevent you from regaining.     Please come back to the boards to let us know what occured.

I don't believe your gain makes you a failure. But more than that I believe you need to talk to your doctor right now. Thoughts of suicide are not goo but at least you said something and want help. Lots of help is out there too. Your problems with your WLS can be fixed and you can get back on track. Take a deep breath and plan your course of action. Doing yourself in is not an option. You didn't take this step in the first place to give up. You can do it. You did it before now just do it again. Fist talk to your doctor and get the depression under control. Like right now and if you can't contact him/her go right to the ER and get help. kp

Penny, You are on the right track by seeking help.  Listen to the people on this forum.  We all have gone through the feelings you are now experiencing.  There is help there for you.  Just like the first time you sought out a doctor.  Call your nearest hospital and have them refer you to someone quickly.  Talk it out with the staff.  There are trained people in the hospitals to help you handle all aspects of your weight problems.  There are dieticians, counselors, doctors...they are there for you.   Ending it all will not help.....be proactive.....search for a doctor online tonight....you are just an evening away from help. Good luck....keep us informed. Blessings.

Penny Dr Schramm is in Holland and the MMPC group, Drs Kemmeter, Baker and Foote are in Grand Rapids.  I agree with the others that you should talk to someone about your depression right away.  Get going on some meds and it will be easier to get back on the wagon with the weight loss. Holland Hospital has a Behavioral Health practice on Williams.

Best of Luck

I do not think that you are a complete failure, It sounds like you just need some help and you have come to the right place.  I would suggest that you get in contact with your primary care doctor becuase he can help you with finding a new surgeon who might be able to help you with your surgery.  Plus also manage your depression because suicide is not the answer.  I went throught a phase also where I battled depression after my surgery.  There are physician in Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Holland.   You are not alone.  Hugs Tricia

Dr. Baker at MMPC is doing a new procedure called Stomafix.  It's done like an endoscopy and fixes the size of your stoma.  The after care I received from MMPC has been priceless.  Whoever you decide to see, please talk to someone. Best wishes to you, Jenn

Thank you everyone who have replied to my email. My plans are to call the Holland office for bariatric surgery, speak to them about my options.  The I will call my PCP and see what he can work out. I just figured this is all my fault and there wouldn't be anything that anyone could do.

I am also talking to someone about my depression and everything else. My hopes are to be active on this list so I can continue with the support. Thank you all.  Penny
