Questions: 1)  How long were you off from work? 2)  What kind of work do you do? 3)  Do you wish you could have taken more or less time off? My surgery is in two weeks and the timing is perfect.  I'll miss one full week of school (teacher), but the 2nd week is full of half-days and Parent/Teacher Conferences (which I can do via e-mail)!    Then if I go back to work or decide to take another week off - it's only 2-1/2 days of school before Thanksgiving Break!! I got lucky with my date.  If I couldn't get it during the summer this is the 2nd best time!!

Q How long were you off from work? A Surgery was October three and I will be returning October 22nd.

Q What kind of work do you do? A I have a desk job, but sometimes out on the floor too... Q  Do you wish you could have taken more or less time off? A Yes in a way I do.. for some reason I cannot sleep at all.  I have not gone to bed eariler than 4 am since I have been off work and after surgery.  For example, it is 5:31am and I have not been to bed yet.  Just cannot sleep.  A year pre surgery I was diagnosed with Narcolopsy and could fall asleep with the drop of a hat, now post surgery, I dont know what happened, but I need a sleeping pill or someting to go to sleep.  I will be calling my PCP to get someting.. THis is awful!! I'm glad your surgey date has worked out for you... That is wonderful!

I was off work for 1 week.  I'm an administrative assistant for public works at a city.  I really didn't need more time off and probably wouldn't have taken it because the pile on the desk gets too high.  As it was, I went in and got some timesheets and did payroll from my home computer just so it wouldn't be so hectic when I got back.  Yes, I know - dedicated (or is that stupid?), don't answer that

I'm a teacher, too.  However, at the time of my surgery, I had taken time off to work on my Master's degree.  I had my surgery in August of 05.  Had I been working, I wouldn't have been able to return to work for 3 weeks, at least.  I ran a low-grade fever (99-100) for three weeks and just felt horrible, run-down, no energy for that time.  After that fever went away, I felt like a completely different person.  But I wasn't working, so I didn't have to worry about going back to work.  So, depending on how you feel, sounds like you have good timing.  One thing that surprised me, though, was how purely EXHAUSTED I was at the end of the day, early on after my surgery.  Good luck!  Tina

I'm a high school band director and had the surgery August 13th.  We had just gotten done with our band camp and I missed the next rehearsal.  I was at rehearsal on August 20th, and 22nd.  Monday I was a little slower than the Wed. night rehearsal or the game we had on Friday.   I think you'll probably be ok -- but it depends on your healing rate.  For me, taking a complete week off and then starting in slowly and hitting full steam by the following Friday worked great.  You will want to take it easy on Monday and Tuesday though -- if it's not working than call in on Wed. and try again on Friday.   Biggest thing I was surprised with was how often I had to ask the kids to carry things -- just remember you can't lift much during those first few weeks.   Listen to your body, it'll tell you when/what you can do.  Good luck and anxious to get you on the loser's bench with the rest of us! --Sax

Hello,   I was off for 2 weeks. I am a office Mgr(Desk Job). I was happy to get back to work.  I was  still sore, but had no problems. I have  stairs ( 10 steps) to my office... but took it slow.  I had open RNY . Good luck with your surgery.
