when is your surgery? most dr's require some type of pre op diet. your dr should let you know if its required.

my dr requires a minimum of 4 weeks on a low carb, low fat , low sugar diet.

the biggest concern is usually that your liver isnt too fatty. if it is it can get in the way during surgery.

Hi Deb, Just my two cents for you......right now, while you're still working on getting a date, etc. you should work on your brain, not your tummy Take some time each day to think about what you ate and why you ate it.  Figure out what your "triggrer foods" are.  If you eat because you're stressed, or happy, or worried, or whatever, write it down.  Then think about what you're going to do with all of those feelings when you can't eat.  If you don't have a good attitude about exercise, now is the time to find out why.  Of course it's never too soon to start eating in a healthy way, but it's also just as important to work on your head hunger. I went into surgery thinking that once they messed with my insides, the desire to overeat would go away.  Let me tell you, a few weeks after surgery I was driving by Taco Bell and crying because I wanted it so bad.  Thankfully I have friends, family and some therapy and now I can face my food issues head on, but it took a long long time for that to happen. So my suggestion is to just keep a little journal for yourself.  Write a few lines at night about how you're feeling and how you're dealing with everything.  Don't beat yourself up if you eat something you don't think you should.  It's all a learning process and the more you educate yourself the more sucessful you'll be when you're given a tool to improve your health.

Good Morning.. MMPC has you on a 2 week pre diet and 2 week liquid diet afterwards.  This is included in the 1363.00 that came out of my pocket.  1000 for Physician fee, and 363 for all the food  you will be eating 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks post.   Dr Foote is a stickler and he does not want to see any weight gain from your initial time of meeting him to the time you get your food.   That could be a few weeks apart, depending how fast your INS works.  Then when you see your NUT, PA, and exercise you will get weighed again and that is your "starting" weight.  then a week later you come back and get weighted again to see how much you lost and see the PA..  THis is your last APPT until surgery...

Deborah, I think one of the reasons why I've been doing so well post-op is the fact that I lost weight pre-op.  The doc told me he wanted me to lose 27 lbs and I hit that on the nose on sugery day.  More importantly, during the 2 months waiting time I started to change my life and re-examine what I ate and started to eat alot healthier.  I vowed to not eat fast food or drink any more pop and was fairly successful with both (only had 2 diet cokes through the summer and I bought neither of them).  Since the surgery I haven't had any cravings for any sweets or fast food.  As a matter of fact yesterday I stopped at a Tim Horton's with some people and we lauged as I pondered how sick I would be if I tried a donut.  It was just completely unappetizing.   Take this time to start getting your head around what you're about to do.  Realize that yes, you'll probably have some of the same set-backs as you've had before.  After surgery things will get a lot easier! --Sax
