I am kind of new to this board, though I have been surfing a while, but I finally have my consult appt with Dr Genaw/Dr. Carlin's office in Nov.  HAP dictacts that I go through their office for the surgery.  I was wondering who has been through their program and what are the expectations before surgery?  Also what do you think of the hospital, office, program, ect.

The program at Henry Ford is GREAT.  HAP does notnecessarily dictate, but they want the best for their patients, which is what Dr. Genaw and Dr. Carlin give their patients.  They are world class trauma surgeons.  You will receive excellent care before, during and after your surgery.  You will be given an amount of weight to lose prior to surgery, and they will not perform the surgery until you do so, and that number is different for everybody, depending on how much you need to lose.  If you smoke, you have to quit, you will have to write a letter to the surgeon telling him that you are prepared to change your habits.  I have been admitted to Henry Ford 3 times, and I received EXCELLENT care each and every time. It is a beautiful hospital.  You will learn all this at the 4 hour class you have to go through. You will be in GREAT hands.  Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any particular questions.   Carol

Hi my name is Annette. I had my surgery on nov. 17. 05 with Dr. Calin. H>FS> Detroit is one of the top 20 hospitals in the country. They have an excellent program. they don't forgt about you after surgery either. they have 3 support group meetingsa month. One wth the our nut Annette, (the second tuesday of the month) one with our phych. Dr. Eshelman (on the fourth Tuesday of the month) and a relapse prevention program with Dr, Eshelma (on the scond Thursday of the month). I prsonally thnk they have the best all aroun program there is. As Carol already said, they do expect for you to lose a set weight amount that they will tell you to lose. They help you to lose it though, they don't just throw you out on your own. They lso expect you to quit smoking if you smoke, Why should they spend their time tryiny to save your life if you are just goig to throw it away for a smoke?.  Do yougo to their on line support group? It'sone of the best there are. its listed in your blue barri binder. best wishes to you as you bein your juorney. Hope this helps.  God bless,  Annette

God bless,
