Anyone had surgery at HF  (Pesta or Marshall)   I have to wait until january  when my ins switches over, so I have been looking at different centers. HF  seems to have a great program they require you to  go to the support groups after surgery.  I am in Royal Oak  and I want to stay close to home Beaumont is my other option but I really don't like that hospital (many bad expierences there)    So I thought I would put it out there since I have some time to decide.

I had my surgery with Dr. Pesta (Marshall was the assist).  HF Bi-County was great!  They have a wing dedicated to bariatric patients and the nurses were awesome!  There was one that was not as nice (overnight) but thank goodness I did not have to interact with her as much.  I did have complications and had to return for two days...put me back in the bariatric wing and again, the nurses were still great.   Dr. Pesta is a great surgeon.  Very caring and has an awesome bedside manner.   Bottom line, research your surgeons and where you want to go.  Then go with your gut feeling.  Everyone can tell you their surgeon was the best, but only you can decide on who will do your surgery (with some great assistance from who your insurance will allow you to go with however).   Good luck to you. Dr. Kruase was awesome at Beaumont.  I've had no problems, treated like a queen in the hospital and out.  They have support groups there also.

Had a friend who went to HF...she did great also.

I did not have surgery there but wanted to let you know that it is not called Bi-County anymore. It is Henry Ford Macomb. I used a Henry Ford Dr who is out of Henry Ford Wyandotte and he is amazing.  I dont think distance should be an issue unless that is something that is extremely important to you. I moved with my Dr because he was so awesome.

I had surgery September 14th with Dr Marshall  . Everyone  is so wonderful there, they all treat you will  . I had problems with the Iv and had to get a central line boy was I scared .  the Dr doing it was amazing  had me laughing.   Once you are out of surgery the nurses take great care of you even the housekeeper asks if you need anything.   Dr Marshall seen me every day while there (saturday and sunday).   They also have a great pre-opt class run by Sally Green  I cannot say enough about her.  They go through everythign with you from start to finish and to an amazing after care support group.  Good Luck with your quest  Feel free to ask any questions

I wonder if I can put in my 2 cents?  I live in Warren and have at least 3 bariatric surgery options with in 10 minutes of me.  I chose to go to Barix in Ypsilanti because the hospital is only for bariatric surgery or wls related illnesses.  It was definately worth the 45 minute drive to the west side for me.  Good Luck! belinda

Actually My friend had surgery there and she was very impressed she did very well. I started looking there ,and I know they have a lower than average complication rate.  I had thought about it and decided that having 3 young kids I should be closer to home in case I have to stay for a few extra days.  Also  I am not sure where they are exactly located or if they are to close to a major hospital. I am a ICU nurseand I would feel more comfortable knowing there is an ICU in the building just in case something major happens.  I glad everything went well for you.

I have not had the surgery, I am waiting to be scheduled. I am having my surgery done at Barix in Ypsilanti with Dr. Kam. I also chose Barix because they are the only hospital that only specialize in bariatrics.  I live in St. Clair Shores and it is definitely worth the time to drive and gas to get there. Barix also does  reconstructive surgery and will help you get insurance approval for it when that time comes. My understanding that from the time you have the surgery they do skin measurements ann document. A friend of mine  who had hers done in a hospital in Toledo says I am so lucky to go through Barix. She said they are the best. She had hers done 6 yrs ago and looks great, but would like to get the excess removed, but her insurance wouldnt approve ( have to have major skin problems to have it done). Good luck with whatever hospital you chose. Michele
