Surgery Blues :O(

Hi everyone...I am only a few days over a week out, and I cannot exercise.  I have a bum knee and going to get x-rays to see what is up.  I dont know what my surgeon is going to say, but just cant do it! I'm so upset that  All I do is freak out that I am not going to lose weight.  My knee was bad prior to surgery too, but I guess I was looking for a miracle to have the surgery and my knee would be cured.  I know, wishful thinking... Also it is really really hard getting in all of my 64 oz of fluid.  My pouch does not allow me to keep sipping all the time.  I just know I am going to screw this surgery up!  I'm sick and tired of drinking and I want to eat something!!!  I go to my 2 week follow up on Tuesday and I guess I will be allowed to eat some things...But I want them now!!!  Cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, pudding, anything with some consistancy!! Is this normal to feel like you are a failure so early in the game?  I just dont now what to do!!  I dont have anything in the house to eat, my parents came over and cleaned it all out with me.  I do have some crackers I am really eyeing!!!   I need a advice...SOON! Thanks

Jodi, I completely understand how you feel. I am at that 2nd stage where I can have the mushy stuff but I don't even want to eat it. I really have no appetite for anything.  I do want "normal" food, but what do you do... just deal.. I am having a hard time getting in my protein since I started the mushy food. I hate protein drinks.. the only thing I can stomach is Isopure... and even that is ugh..  because the weight loss hasn't really hit me yet.. I kind of feel like why did I do this... I know the answer.. but still.. I just am not seeing it yet.. Keep strong. I know I'm trying to. And just adding extra movement to your daily activities will help!!  Hang in there!!! Sara

Thanks Sara... I'm hanging in there.. I just feel uneasy that I cannot walk.  I have other things to do, that will have to do for the time beeing...

Wwhat were you allowed to eat when you went in and seen your nut?? Cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, creamed soup and what else??

I know you lost 17 pounds on the first week of the pre-op diet.  How much more have you lost??  I dont even know what to expect to lose when I go and see Dr Foote.  I lost only 23 lbs on the 2 week pre-op diet.  Could have done better, but feel good about it.   Great to hear you are doing so well. Hope to hear from you again soon! Jodi

Jodi,  please don't give up on yourself so easily.     You WILL be able to walk soon enough. I have one knee replacement but the other is so bad with arthritis that I was headed for crutches again before my band surgery.  After losing only 17 pounds (with no excercise cuz i wanted the knee to settle down), that knee barely causes any pain now and I am getting ready to start working out again.   Just get through this first part of healing and stay positive!  You will win this if you allow yourself to. Hugs!

Thank you so much!  I am looking forward to the day I can move like a "normal" person.  I have been close to immobile for almost 6 months.  I will just keep smiling and thinking positive!! thanks

Best advice I can give you. Settle down. Go to the local pool and walk in the water. It will take the stress off your knee. Or have your surgeon write you a script for physical therapy preferably a place with a pool for folks with knee injuries. You'll lose weight. kp

Thanks Kp... I need to get my x-ray done and go from there.  We do have a pool at the local High School.  I'll have to go to the adult swimming.  Never thought of that one.  Thanks!!

Hey there Debbie...I have total faith in Dr Foote.  I can't say it enough.. I luv him.  Even though he seems shy to me for some reason.  :O)  I will ask him Tuesday when I can go in a pool.  Never thought about asking first.  Derr
