Denied health insurance because of surgery

I got denied health insurance because of my gastric bypass surgery.  They stated that the long term effects of the surgery were not known yet and they would not accept me.  I was surprised since I'm probably healthier know than I have been in a long time.   Has anyone else had this problem or heard about this?

Yup, I'm now uninsurable!! Normal weight, normal bp, normal sugar levels, no aches/pains... but can't buy insurance.     I've heard others say that their insurance company said it'd be that way until they were five years post op. I don't know how accurate that is though.  I personally switched to consumer driven health care. You can pm me if you'd like more information.  Hugs

Interesting.  What type of insurance were you trying to purchase?    Did you try Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan.  BCBSM.com.  I do not think they will reject you because you've had the surgery.

I don't know if it's the same thing or not, but we had to switch insurance companies at work.  We went from MCare to BCN without any problems.  Maybe a different insurance company will accept you. 

Check with Zanderins.com    They might be able to help you get health insurance and life insurance.  I got my new life insurance with only 9 months out.

You could always move to Canada :)
