New Here

Hi All - I am new to this site and thought I would give it a try.  I am pre-op, 31 yrs old female.  Oh yeah I am a yooper!  My surgeon will be Dr. English in Marquette.  Has anyone else used him?  I have a question about ins.  I have bcbsm and they require a 12 month supervised diet and weigh ins.  I was diagnosed with pseudotumor cerebri.  The surgeons office seems to think they can get the 12 months waived because of my diagnosis.  I was told it was either wls or brain surgery.  Well you can guess what I have picked.  Does anyone out there have or know of anyone who got bcbsm to waive the 12 months.  I have already had my psych eval and was giving the ok for surgery.  My neurologist wrote a very compelling letter to attach to the documentation that they are sending to the insurance company. Hi Kim and welcome!!  I am a YOOPER too!!  I'm from the Houghton/Han**** area. Painesdale to be exact. I have been in Freeland, near Saginaw for 4 years now. I do miss  home as my family is there but I love it here!! Wow, you have been through a lot. I hope that brain surgery is not what you have to endure. I'm sorry that I can't answer your question but I wish you the best of luck. Susan

Hi there-              I am also a yooper and just had surgery 3 weeks ago. I also had Dr. English.  I REALLY liked him.  I also had bcbs but for federal employees & they didn't require the 1 yr. wait.  (even though I did have several years of diet attempts from my doctor. )  Good luck with everything.

Tiz - How was your hospital stay and surgery?  I have not met any of Dr. English's patients and just curious.  Everyone in the office has been extremely helpful.  I am just anxious, I want it done yesterday. Kim

Hi Kim and welcome to the Michigan board.. I don't think I can answer your questions but I am sure there will be someone on here that can help you.. I have found so much help in this board.. I don't post a lot, but I read almost everything... I am sure you will find great support here... Best of luck to you on getting insurance approval and with your surgery...
