Salad?
Hi all,
I will be 9 weeks post op RNY on Monday and I forgot to ask my dietitian when could I eat salad greens. I love salad and usually order that when I go out to a restaurant. I am going out this weekend and would love to order one but am not sure I can have it yet. I called Hurley Bariatric Center but the Dietitian wasn't in today. Does anyone know if it is okay to go ahead and order a salad while I am out?
Thanks,
Susan

I was cleared to try salad as soon as I could eat regular food. I haven't had any problem with it at all and eat lettuce a lot.
You might want to try a bit at home first, just to see how it's going to set with you. I have read on the board that some people really have a problem and can't tolerate it. You don't want to be out for dinner and have to go throw up!
Get a little bit and try it....just a bite or two....and then wait to see what happens. And, as I'm sure you know, watch the dressing!

I would not try a new food out in public, try it at home first. Just remember to add protein to your salad. I do egg, turkey, cheese, etc.. to mine to make it worth eatting. And yes, be very careful about the dressings, especially out in a restaurant. They're high fat and sugar!!! Some people carry their own dressing with them, I just ordered ranch on the side, and dip my fork into before picking up some salad - you use MUCH less dressing this way.
