Hello Michiganders -  I'm Zena, and I'm am desperately looking for a new PCP in the Southfield, Farmington, Bloomfield areas.  My current PCP is very rude, and not supportive of my decision to seek bariatric surgery. My insurance is HAP HMO, and I've been approved to see the psychologist for a psych eval. I am currently scheduled for 10/15 to see her. I need help finding a good PCP who will be supportive pre and post op. The other thing I need help with is: Can anyone help me figure out what I really need to say to the psychologist to get approved??? It really depends on her recommendation for me to go see Dr. Genaw of the Henry Ford.   I would truley appreciated all responses as I only have a couple of days to make my change for the PCP because all changes go into effect on the first day of the following month... Thanks again, Zena (Xena)

I see Dr. Marvin Wells.  He is in Waterford.  He is very nice.  The shrink evaluation is painless if you keep in mind a few things: You will be spending one hour there. They don't need nor want your whole life's history. They want to see that you are not unstable, so leave out any  ranting about mom, dad and siblings.  If they give you a test to complete with a zillion questions, you may see the same question asked in a different way a few times.  Be consistent in your answer.

Make sure that you let them know that you will use all after care and follow doctors orders. Let them know you have family and or friends who support your decision and will be there for you. Relax.  Doctors are people, too. Good luck, let us know what happens!

I don't know the southfield area but as for the psych eval, just be yourself.  they are doing the eval for your benefit so don't try to fake anything.  i will tell you this, i had an extensive evaluation and was still approved and i'm a total nutjob so you have nothing to worry about!

My PCP is Shawn Syron in Troy at Long Lake and John R. His number is 248-813-0124. I love him and have been seeing him for at least 7 years now. Hope you have a good eval.

Yeah but you love Paul and Jon and me so you are not exactly known for your good taste. Add Jay to that mix and it really goes bad fast.

Thanks to Everyone for the respones... Suzanne, was Dr. Syron supportive with the wls? Also, does he have many clients who have had wls? It will be a long drive, but I might consider going to him if he is good and knowledgeable and he accepts my HAP HMO...Thanks.

I know that he has a couple of patients that have had WLS. There is also a female Dr in the office that her first name is Stacey. I think you need to set up a short visit with one of them and see for yourself. He knew my history and knew my struggles with WLS and was on board 110%. I was so thankful to have him on my side.
