I'm a bit upset

I just found out today another person is going to retire on the 31st of October.  She hasn't put her paperwork in yet but she has given verbal notice.  I don't want to share my party day with her.  This is supposed to be my special day, I've had in for it for almost 2 months.  Everytime this person gets involved with something, it ends up being everything Joyceann.  She has the loudest voice, the worst, loudest laugh and everything is always about her.  An example,  we used to celebrate birthdays around her until it came to mine, then they decided to not do it anymore.  They celebrated everyone's 50th birthday except mine because they were all tired of it.  I can't help it I was born in December.  Her party was the biggest and best though.

I have decided that if the city manager insists on holding the parties at the same time on the same day, I will not attend.  I will take the 29th - 31st off as vacation and leave as soon as the movers get done with my house and the car carrier has left.  This way, it can be "all about her".  I also picked out a really  nice pendant (we get $150 for whatever we want).  I will instead have them turn that back in and get me a $150 gift card from Lowes and that way when I look at my newly painted walls I'll think about all the years I put in.

Yeah, I'm upset because she has done this but that's the way she works.  It's all about her.

Ann, I can understand you feeling this way. What if you talked to the Manager and explained your feelings to them and ask they hold 2 different parties? I don't think your request would be too much to ask for. Hope it all works out for you and they hold seperate ones.  Connie

Well Like Connie said maybe they will have 2 parties. You should ask now so you might be able to work with them and change the dates. I can see where you would be frustrated and let down it should be your day..Well keep me posted and let me know what you find out..

I talked to the HR person and explained how I felt.  If this other person puts in her paperwork for retirement the same day, her party will be held in the afternoon.  Mine is all set for 10:00 a.m. and then I'm free to leave afterwards.  A lot of the people here at work stood behind me on this one because they have been upstaged by this person and they were glad I stood up for myself.

I know somebody like that. It's always about him him him. All the time. Jon is the loudest most obnoxious GAP I know. Tell her your having a special party for her at another building but it's a surprise. You couldn't figure out how to get her there so you decided to just tell her and ask her to act surprised. Make it the day after yours and tell her to show up and act like she didn't know. Send her to an empty room and then sit home and giggle. kp

LOL kp has a great idea!!!  Not only will she see it's not about her, but you'll get the last laugh.   I love pranks! linda

Thanks for the smile KP.  I had someone email me a saying that would fit her perfectly.  I might frame it and wrap it up and leave it on her desk as I'm walking out the door.  She might "get" it then.

Thank you saxman.  I"ve already started sending out special invitations to those that are not employees/retirees from the city.  I warn them all to bring the kleenex though because I'm going to need it.
