pre surgery diet???

    I have surgery on Tuesday, 9/18 and my doctor has me on "NO" presurgical diet.  He told me to eat low fat and carb but I could eat right up until my surgery (liquids after midnight the night before)  Most everyone else I see has a 15 day liquid or special diet.  Has anyone else out there had no pre surgery diet???   I have been watching what I eat but I'm thinking of going liquid anyway starting tommorrow.

My surgery is the 24th and I was told no special diet just try not to gain any weight. and nothing not even water after 12am the night before surgery.  They say if you  loose it shrinks the liver and makes it easier for them to move around in there.  I think it really depends on how big you are before surgery.  Best of fLuck to you and see on the loosers bench soon

I had my surgery at Hurley two years ago.  I had surgery at 335 pounds.  I was not put on any pre-surgical diet, however, from what I understand, Hurley now does a pre-surgery diet.  I was only told to eat "light" 48 hours before and liquid only 24 hours before.  No food or water 12 hours before surgery (or something like that).  My surgery was done laproscopically with no problems.  Good luck on your surgery.  Tina

I have a friend who did not do the liquid diet and she had a rough time after surgery getting used to such a drastic diet change. From my experience, the liquid diet really helped prepare me for after surgery.  I would try at least a modified version of a liquid diet just to get your body used to it so things will go more smoothly after surgery. I agree - it also prepared me for after surgery - the liquid diet is a REALITY CHECK.   If also helps you build up your protein intake to better prepare you for surgery and recovery quicker.   I just had surgery at Hurley on 8-22 and had a 15 day pre-op diet.    Last year people were just doing the 1 week pre-op diet at Hurley and they changed it to a 15 day program.   Good luck on your surgery and after.......
