Hi everyone-- I have been working toward WLS for the past 9 months, trying to get all of my ducks in a row. I am having a consultation on Thursday 9/13 with the ONE surgeon (Kerry Kole D.O.) who accepts my current insurance (CareChoicesHMO). I have the option of switching to the PPO side in January, which would expand my options to include the Barix Clinic. I welcome all opinions & suggestions!!! I'm 47, married with 2 kids (freshman in high school, junior in college) and 8 feline furbabies. I am a nurse & work with new moms & babies. I have been overweight for about 34 years & realize that I need a tool that will really assist me in finally becoming healthy.  I look forward to "meeting" and learning from all of you!! Michele

Hi Michele,     You and I are very close in age; isn't it amazing how as we get closer to approaching the big 50 we wake up and realize how important good health is!? Before now I bet you were like me always focased on others and your family; but now I realize if I did not do something quick about my health, none of it would matter because I may not be here! I was diaginosed diabetic in Dec 06; and that lit a fire under my butt! I had sleep apnea, thyroid, diabetes; and major pain issues. As of Dec 06, have RNY WLS in Feb 07 I have lost over 90 lbs. I feel healthier than I have in years! I would do it again in a heartbeat. I have hit a few bumps in the road; and now I am working on putting myself back on track! I wish you the best; and say welcome to the Mich boards. By the way if you live close to flint ? there are monthly meeting at the Hurley fitness center; with one coming up this monday evenning. Ask any ?'s of me you would like and I will try to help you answer them. By the way off all but 2 of my medications now.. Sincerely, Judy R

Michele, Though I am a Barix patient, I suggest that you go to your scheduled consultation with Dr. Kole.  As we all know, insurance changes all the time, so I would suggest you get the procedure right now while you know its covered.   Best Wishes.

Hey Mikki,  Welcome to a wonderful journey.  The post I was telling you about is http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/amos/a,messageboard/board_ id,4856/cat_id,4456/topic_id,3387160/action,replies/ Good luck and remember to keep us posted.   It is true that insurance companies change their policies all the time and many are getting tougher and tougher on WLS.  Keep that in mind while you do your research and make your decision.   Love ya and can't wait to see less of you all around.  I wouldn't have had my experiences any other way.
