2nd Level Appeal to BCN
Good morning everyone--I just submitted my 2nd level appeal to my insurance company Blue Care Network. The process with the 2nd level appeal is where you actually meet with a committee of medical doctors who will determine my fate as to rather I am approved or I will be going the my last step of the appeal process which is to appeal to my state insurance commisioners, which I am claiming will not be necessary...
I have a choice of either meeting with them in person or through telephone conferencing I was told the actual meeting will only take about 15 minutes.
My question is has anyone went through this process & what should I be expecting? And if this were you would you meet in person or do the telephone conference? please elaborate if possible.
Any inforamtion would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance!!!
Renee

I went through it. Go in person!! They need to see how your life is affected by the weight. They give you fifteen minutes to talk then they ask you questions. Make sure you're prepared, let them see that you've done your research and truely believe this is the only way to get the weight off. Let them know that you know it's just a tool and not a magic solution. Write out what you're going to say. tell them your comorbidities and how wls will help to make you healthy. They give you an answer in five business days. Take a support person with you to talk too and tell how they think you'll do. I wrote a "speach" and just read from it.....i can send it to you to give you some ideas if you want, just let me know.
Again, do not do it over the phone, they have to know you're serious.

Renee, first of all, GOD BLESS YOU!! Second, I agree with Linda, go in person for your appeal!!! This is your chance to let them see you in person and make a decision after meeting with you. I had to do the same thing last year and got approved the next day and had surgery on 9/11/06 since then I have lost 170 pounds and still going! The process for the in person appeal is quite simple, you talk for about 15 minutes and they ask a couple of questions you can read my profile under June 2006 for more details, they only asked me 2 questions and that was it. I brought my husband and daughter with me since they were the ones who helped me around the house all the time and they were able to describe what life around our house had been with me being over 300 pounds. I will say some prayers for you and ask Jesus to be with you while you are in the appeal process! God Bless you!
