Barix Ypsilanti, How long??
Hello fellow Michiganders,
I started this journey in June. We went to the seminar and had a surgery consult that day. I had all my paperwork in, except for my Insurance Card. I printed out a insurance card, gave it to them and went on my way.
A month passed. They billed my insurance for the surgery consult.
I called to find out what was up and they insisted that I needed to bring in my actual insurance card.
So I brought it right in and made sure there was nothing else they needed.
I haven't heard from them, I will call tomorrow.
Im sure there is someone out there that can relate to wanting something so bad and then having to wait and wait.
The positive note is that the woman I spoke with at Barix said that my insurance (UHC+) usually only wants you to be obese for 5 years.
Argh!
Now I am in the second to last semester of college, both of my kids started school today (kindergarten and high school, really!) and I want to be on the losing side by the end of the year!
I am joining Curves asap, so I can feel like I am doing something.
This is on par with growing a baby in ones belly!
Learning patience whether she likes it or not,

Rose....I don't have any advice or anything about Barix...I went thru Henry Ford, but I do have advice about Curves....I was tossing it around between that and Fitness USA.....I chose Fitness USA. It was the same amount down, and the same amount per month.....and after 3 yrs you had a Lifetime membership with no other fees. After 3 yrs with Curves..you had nothing. And....Fitness USA has sooooooooooo much more to offer. The pool, water arobics, hot tub, arizona room and so much more equipment. With having surgery I am sure its gonna be a good 2 yrs at least till I get into "great shape" with the toning and stuff....If you are near me in Westland I can even give you some guest passes....so you can see how you like Fitness USA.

I had my consult in Feb and my surgery in June. I was the one who had them hold off on the surgery due to some personal issues.
If I was to go through this surgery again I would definately go with Barix. They have taken excellent care of me. I can't praise Dr. Kam's Ofc. enough and/or the insurance girls at Barix.
I would call them and find out what the hold up is. Good Luck!
Thanks for the reply, I just called and got the answering machine. There are other places that offer lap band around here, if I am not going to get good service, I will go to U of M or Harper. I had my consult on June 4th and the only thing I needed was a psych. eval which I got one week later!
It would of been nice to have the surgery during the Summer when my son could help me out during the day, my husband could take time off work and it could be a pseudo vacation.
I am trying not to be negative but I am annoyed.
I liked the surgeon alot, Dr.Poplawski --- I need to find his email address so I can let him know how it is going and see if he can help me out.

When she called back, she told me that she didn't have my insurance card. This is what I went through over a month ago and I assured her that I went there, the front desk made a copy and sent it up to insurance.
I am embarassed to say that I cried and cried.
When you finally realize that this thing is bigger then you and you need help and you have been researching for years and have decided to not let the fear of going through surgery rule your life and then there is all this ridiculousness.
I am letting go and letting God take care of it.
