pain comparison

okay, I am reading all about the pain and I know I am going to be in some but this is my question....I had my gall bladder out about 10 years ago and it was done lap.  I didn't have a whole lot of pain with it in fact I was ready to go back to work in two days but they made me stay out for a week.  Will they be moving much more around doing this surgery than they did with removing the gall bladder?  I had five holes and they pulled it out from my belly button.  Just trying to prepare myself for what kind of pain to expect.

I had minimal pain after surgery.  When I got home I only used pain meds once.  Only had pain when I laid on one of the incisions.  In the hospital, the incision on the top right hurt....and that was the only one,  That is where the liver is and they moved that around and he told me he did a deep muscle stitch there....but it was bearable. Good luck. P

Great,  I have a pretty high tollerance for pain, but I just wanted to try to prepair myslef,  I have two kids 12 and 6 who are all worried about being able to give mommy hugs lol and my husband is worried about sleeping in the same bed for the first week or so.

Well, my husband didn't bother me...hahahhahha....and the dog was pretty nice too in the bed.  Like I said, that one incision hurt like h*ll, but not enough that I couldn't get around with it.  Of course everyone is different, but I handle pain pretty well.  Another great help was if your incisions do hurt, when sitting up, take a pillow, press it against where it hurts then get up.  Be sure to bring a pillow with you so you can cushion the seat belt for your ride home...and a pair of loose elastic slacks is not a bad idea for the ride home....of course before the surgery, nothing I wore was loose!!!!! Tell those kids...hug away...that is the best medicine...but don't hug too hard! Blessings

GB surgery is minor in comparison. Pain isn't the issue so much as monitoring and facilitating recovery. The innards heal differently. You are having major elective high risk surgery and you need time to heal and get into the groove. Forget pain. There are meds for that. For the first month you will have to try and convince your body that you are not starving. You are retraining you, your body and anyone you are near that from now on out it's gonna be way different. Pain is relative. kp

Hey there, Just remember you said you had that surgery 10 yrs ago........................ OOOOOOO I can tell you I went in with the very same thought....... Oh just like my gallbladder  N O T !!!!!!!  It is a bit more intense, and I didn't bounce back quite as fast.  And I think age does make a difference!  I would say the first 2 weeks were the toughest.  Just remember to get up and walk as soon as they let you. Not only the recovery from surgery, the total change your body is going under. Now I'm 7 weeks post and feeling much better. Good luck! B
