Pregnancy after surgery

I know that women can have children after having bariatric surgery. I was told by my surgeon to wait at least 18 months-2 years before getting pregnant. I was wondering has anyone had a baby after the surgery? Was the pregnancy associated with any complications? Just a thought I was having and figured I'd see if anyone out there has any thoughts on the subject. I can't wait till I am post op and can offer words of wisdom to the newbies!

Hi Jennifer, I hate wls 8 1/2 months ago and got pregnant when I was 6 1/2 months out.  Generally a no no, but what's done is done.  I'm just into my 3rd month and so far things have been well.  I guess all I can do is keep you posted, or you might want to pop over to the pregnancy board.  The ladies there have TONS of useful information!  Also, good luck with your surgery!

I had WLS 06/06.  I had lost about 65 lbs post surgery and about 85 lbs altogether.  I am currently 36 weeks pregnant and up until about 2 weeks ago I had and excellent pregnancy experience.  Two weeks ago I started getting alot of abdominal pain, pretty much directly under my incision.  I have been to the doctor several times for this and all they can come up, after several humdreds of dollars of test is that the baby is somehow interacting with scar tissue or adhesions and causing the pain.  Currently they are treating me with pain meds and waiting to see if the pain gets any better.

Did you have your surgery done open or laprascopically?  There is a woman on the pregnancy board who's having some major pain due to gas getting trapped between her pouch and the baby.  Apparently when baby moves, he traps the gas inside the pouch/intestines and it has no where to go unless baby moves around.  Just a thought/idea if you didn't have open surgery.  I hope your pain gets better soon!!

I did have open surgery, but it could be the same thing.  I looked a litle bit on the pregnancy  board last night but I never found anything about that.  Would you be able to tell me better where to look?  I would be interested in talking to her to see what her pain is like and comparing if it could be the same thing.  Thanks for the information.

Having open surgery, I would bet that it is bothering your incision.  But I'm no expert at all.  Here's the most recent post about her situation.  I'm sure you could pm her directly for more info. http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/postop_pregnancy/a,messageboard/action,replies/board_id,5370/cat_id,4970/topic_id,3384493/
