Making a salad
I am eating salads now and I don't know how to judge how much is too much. I usually do a 1/2 cup of low fat feta, a palm full of lettuce, a half of spear of cucumber and a tiny grape tomato. My question is: how much lettuce should I measure out?
Any salad ideas.
Help me with measurements.
Thanks as always.

hhmmm, now theres a question I've not seen before. I didn't measure my lettuce per say. I measured my toppings (tureky, egg, cheese, cucumber, carrots). Lettuce chews up to about nothing and is loaded with water so I always just laid enough down to cover my plate (by plate I used a saucer for coffee cups as my dinner plate).
Next question: if lettuce is mostly water, and I eat a salad for lunch - aren't I really drinking with my meal????
ROFL!!!!!!!!!
JUST KIDDIN" Don't ya'll start flamming me - it was just a joke!!!
Have a terrific day!!!
Laurie,
Me flame you....nevah! Thanks for the advice. You're gonna laugh. I had salad tonight and I just got done throwing it up!
It's the first time I've ever done that since my surgery.
Oh well......it was good while it lasted. Is that called dumping?

You know, I had a salad early out.
And I had severe pains, dumping and etc. So I stopped the salad for a while.
Took me many months- I started with spinach or baby bibb lettuce, it's softer and was easier for me.
now I can eat salads but the lettuce has to be really fresh and clean....otherwise, I get sick.
The portion size sounds like a question for your NUT.
Good luck!

Waving back at you.
I've been sitting on the patio, sipping water, and praying that I feel better. This is a first for me. Wow. I had a smal salad a couple of days ago and I was fine. Tonight I added chicken...and more veggies....it did me in....I don't care if I ever eat again. It has finally gone down...and I had visions of going to Beaumont hospital tonight.
I will survive....no more salads...it's soft foods for me tomorrow.
Hugs.

If you just had your surgery on July 7, personally I think it is too early for you to be eating raw veggies. Lettuce has very little nutritional value because of it's water content, unless it's a darker lettuce like leaf or the dark greens of romaine. To me, even though I adore salads, it's not worth the stomach upset because of the amount you have to eat to get any benefit nutritionally. As far as raw veggies are concerned, I have to peel the skins off everything, and chew the hell out of it or I get problems. Fruits are the same way...all the skin from apples, plums, peaches, nectarines, etc...have to be peeled off first.
Try waiting a couple of more weeks and then have a small amount of salad as a test. I did the following to see what part of my salad was hurting me. I first ate a couple of bites of just lettuce and waited a couple of hours. Then I tried each veggie individually...by process of elimination, I found out it was the stringy celery and sunflower nuts that offended my tummy. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

The usual disclaimer here: check with your doctor to verify if salads are allowed this early out.
I started eating salads and raw veggies at about 2 1/2 months postop without any problems, and love them to this day. Are you sure it wasn't the chicken that caused you problems? Grilled chicken sent me to the ER at 5 weeks. I thought I was eating tiny bites and chewing well, but ended up needing an endoscopy.
These first few weeks of eating are the hardest, figuring out what will work well for you. It gets much easier in another month or so.
Good luck to you.
