The skinny on me....

It’s been a while since I have given an update… here is the latest….

On August 16th I went and had my scope done.. It was a breeze.  I was scared for noting.  Dr Foote was called off on surgery so Dr Baker performed the procedure.  Dr Baker was very nice, and came in on his day off, so all Dr Foote’s patients would not have to go home.  That was nice of him.  The longest part was trying to get my IV in place, and waiting to be called into the procedure room.  I told them to give me extra drugs, because I did not want to feel anything.  Well the nurse put the drugs in and said ‘sweet dreams’ and that is all I remember.  While Dr Baker was in there, he did find a rash/infection in my stomach and took a biopsy.  I just received my results today.  They say I have ‘Chronic Gastritis’ and called in a RX for Priolsec OTC.  I told them I don’t have heartburn at all and they said if I do not start to treat it, I will begin to get it and can lead to ulcers.  So I will add another pill to my daily intake and that makes 14.  On the “good” side of the diagnosis.. that is another co-morbidity that will aid in getting the surgery.  So I guess there are good and bad.

On August 17th I had my second Behavioral visit with Scott Glass.  That also went well.  We discussed the “test” results that I had to take after the first meeting.  Scott said that my score of ‘31’ was normal, and that most people score this the first time.  That makes me feel a little better hearing him say that I was not “nuts”.  :O) In conclusion, all my depression stems from my weight.  Which I could have told him that before I even shook his hand the first time.  But I guess it has to be down in writing.  :O)

Monday August 20th I went and had all the blood work done plus a nicotine dependency test.  I too received my results today.. and they said they found some bacteria in my blood

called Helicobacter pylori or H pylori.  This was discovered in the blood tests, but was not found in the biopsy.  They are having me take 2000 units of Vitamin D for 7 weeks then I will need to go back and have another blood test to see if is still show up. Uggh.. just what I need, is another pill to consume...

Well that about raps up what has been going on with me...I'm guessing from here the next step is to start sending letters to the insurance company....  Let’s hope and pray I do not get denied.  I am in desperate need of this surgery.  Please pray for me, that I get approved and a date soon.  I need all the prayers I can get.

Jodi, I've been wondering where you stood with your process.  Sorry to hear about more pills, but your day is coming :)

Jodi i'm glad you're getting everything wrapped up.    H pylori is known to cause the rash or gastritis which will lead to an ulcer.   But if i'm not mistaken, you need a round of antibiotics to clear it up.    Go to webmd.com and read about it.     I hope you get your date soon. Linda

Hi Jodi Sounds like you've been through all the steps and now you should be hearing soon.  My prayers and best wishes are with you Jodi.  What procedure did you end up choosing?  Last I heard you were going to see what Dr. Foote recommended. Lynn

Hi Nancy.. I chose the RNY.  I feel that is the better choice for me.  I have alot of weight to loose and the lap-band would not give me the results I wanted.  Dr Foote let me make the decision, and I like that. I did not want to be pressured... and I did not feel that at all.  I love him.. and I have only met him once.. He is a wonderful man that is going to change my life. THanks for the reply :O)

You sure have had a lot going on.... I will keep you in my prayers that you get approved and all goes smoothly.. Just think, by this time next year you could be off almost all, if not all of those 14 meds... I was on a lot of meds too, but not that many and I am only taking thyroid meds, anti-depressants and my vitamins... It is much better than it used to be... Things will get better for you as well.. You have made a great choice to change your life and start all over... Best of luck to you on your journey...

Thanks for the update Jodi.  Won't MMPC contact the insurance company and get you approved or do you have to do it yourself because of their rules?  I'm glad they found everything out now and that it is easy to take care of.  Just think, once you have the surgery you'll lose a lot of those pills.   I'll be thinking about you.

Ann.  Yes.. MMPC is going to do all the paperwork and get ahold of my INS company.  I called MMPC and they looked me up and said I was ready for approval.  So I put in a call to the "insurance specialist" (dont know her name) and hoping she will call me back this week to let me know all the details...  Thanks for the reply Ann...
