ketosis?
My doctor's office said i tested positive for ketones in my urine. but i'm not by any means eating low carb. i am eating fiber one cereal every day, some bread, fruit and plenty of other carbs. the doctor is doing another test before he wants me to be concerned and will talk to me about what it might mean. I am NOT diabetic, this has already been ruled out. so WTH? how can you be in ketosis while eating carbs??? I know our bypass operations are supposed to help with fat but can i also be malabsorbing carbs? any one have any experience with this?

when your body burns off fat instead of carbs it gives off ketones. they show up in your urine and you can either buy test strips which turn colors to show you how high your ketone level is or the doctor can do a urinalysis. Ketosis is usually a good thing for us as it shows we're burning off fat stores but i was just wondering how that's possible when i'm eating carbs as your body will burn carbs first and only burn fat if it's not getting enough carbs. for me in the past that meant i needed to eat less than 25 net carbs a day or i would not reach ketosis. I'm eating way more carbs than that now and can't figure out what is going on. i don't think it means anything's wrong, it's probably fine but i'm curious.
