i start school again in a couple of weeks and since i also work full time, i just know that in order to stay on track i'm going to need some convenient choices... so i was thinking about giving these a shot... just want to make sure they don't taste like mud or anything...
also open to any other options that have worked for any of you (i'm vegetarian, so meat-y protein sources are out, but anything else i'd love to hear)... i picked up some low-sugar soy jerky, but the taste isn't exactly what you'd call desirable...

I bet it was!!!
I'm affraid I can't be of any help as I am clueless to what vegetarians eat. It's hard enough for me to find foods that are high in protein and fast. You have a double challenge!
Best of wishes to you and have a great school year!!
Does your Nut know you are vegan? Usually they can help you select high protein items.
Our local co-op grocery has tons of vegan items but not all are low fat or calorie.
Do you do dairy? Some vegans do not.
I would recommend asking a NUT.....maybe check out the MAIN oh.com board for answers too
Good Luck!

i'm actually not vegan, i'm lacto-ovo vegetarian (i eat cheese, dairy, but no meat, fish)... my nutritionist knows, but didn't have such a great amount of suggestions except that i would need to be extra careful about getting my protein in... i don't actually have much trouble getting my protein in (veggie burgers, veggie chili, cottage cheese, etc) it's the convenience foods that im struggling with... like i'd love to have something i could keep in my purse and whip up without any trouble if i get stuck late at school or find my blood sugar dropping, etc...
There are several protein bars that are low in sugar that I think are good and I hate cardboard as much as anyone does!
Q-Smart granola protein bars in Chocolate peanut butter
and Cranberry almond have 10 gms protein and I believe 1 gram sugar -- i got mine at Barix in Ypsi. Use to find them at Walgreens and Kroger but that has become scarce now.
South Beach diet meal replacement bars have 19 grams of protein I believe bu****ch out for the carbs, they are low sugar but the carbs are a bit high if you watch that too
and Power Crunch protein Bars come in many flavors and are wafers that have 14 gms protein and 1-2 grams sugar.
They are made by Bio-Nutritional and sometimes the link is to the left on this board or you can google them online. When I bought them I would buy more than 2 boxes and it would save in shipping. I do not believe you can get them in stores.
GNC has a new protein bar called OH YEAH! and they are the same principle as the Power Crunch bars, 14 gms protein and low sugars. They are about 1.99 a bar.
Cottage cheese is high in protein, though I have to be in the mood for it!
Hope this might be of help!

i like the "pure protein" brand bar. the cheapest i have found them are at walmart. they are $1.16 each or you can buy a box of 6 for $5.95. i like the chocolate peanut butter the best. they only have 2g sugar & 20g protein, 17g carbs. i walk at least 2-1/2 miles every morning & take one with & eat it on my jaunt. good way to get protein in the diet. good luck!!
