Hurley's Mandatory diet questions

Hurley’s pre-diet is ordered online through betterMD.net and costs $249.00 for a 4-week supply. I understand you get to select the assortment of pudding/shakes etc. My question is has anyone used the products and do you really need a 4-week supply? When I was scheduled previously it was sold in weekly packages and I understood you would need a 2 week supply. I have not spoken to anyone yet and I’m sure this will probably be covered in the pre-op appointment but do I really want/need 4 weeks worth? I can totally understand the 2 weeks prior to surgery but what if you have all this and can’t tolerate it after surgery? Sounds like a lot of up front money for something you may not be able to use. It does not indicate that you can order lesser amounts now either.

I was told at my pre-op appt with a nut and also a classroom seminar they go by how big your belly is. They told me I had to do a week of it and told the guy next to me he had to do 2 weeks. I weighed 295 and thought my belly was quite big. I called the # they gave me for better MD and told them I needed a week ,they had me pick out what I wanted. I had my shipped to Hurley Bariatric Clinic and paid them when I picked it up, about 2 days later. I didn't do good, on it and maybe did 1 1/2 days total. So, I was a little worried my liver wouldn't have shrank and I was gonna wake up with open rny...BUT ALL WAS GOOD, Thank GOD!! I see you have Dr. Obeid as your Dr. was that from last time you were scheduled? I heard he had a stroke about 2 days after he did my surgery. But that could be all here say, I never heard it from anyone there. But I haven't seen him since my surgery though....When is your surgery scheduled? Thanks for the info. I am hoping it will be a one or two week thing. I am 212 but I am only 5 feet tall. I know Dr Obeid is still not on the schedule to do surgery. I will probably proceed with Dr Wagner. I have heard good things. It's looking like an October date for me. ~Jan

Well, when I did it, I had to do 10 days... I never heard of 4 weeks... OMG!!!!! I would call someone and talk to them... They must have changed things since I had my surgery last year.... I managed through the 10 days and it even went over my son's birthday and my surgery was just before Thanksgiving.. but I managed and I got through it.. The food/drink that they provide are delicious.... I still have some and have been thinking about "treating" myself with a pudding here and there... ( My surgery got moved up so I had more left over).... Best of luck to you.. I am sure you will do just fine...

Shawn, I'm sure I will find out during my nutrition class. I think I will go on October 4th. Then I will be sure of what they are looking for.

Well I got mine in the mail yesterday and I have to do it 8 days. 80 dollars. My surgery is September 4th and I am having the rny. Judy

The packet I got in May, when I was first scheduled for June, it said a 1 week supply for $80. Now, the one I just got for October says a 4 week supply for $249. Maybe that is just to let you know it's cheapter if you buy 4 weeks. I guess I will find out more at my pre-op appointment on Sept 26th.

Hello MI, I received the 8 day supply. I just wanted to note that the shakes were in my humble opinion , ok. The fruit drinks were pretty much unpalatable to me, they were way too sweet. Dr wagner said it made a huge difference in my surgery that my liver was so much smaller after those 8 days ( although he didnt peek at it before surgery that I know of LOL) I had RNY on 8/15. I have just found this MI group, I am so happy you are all here, sometimes you just want  someone close you can relate to. Thank you!

 

I was told to and ordered a 15 day supply as far as how much food that actually is, its what they are wanting you to eat so thats just it.  they have different amounts based on how much your surgeon wants you to lose before surgery and based on your BMI.  from like an 8 day 15day and 30 day.
