Going Forward

I just finished my dinner which was a 1/2 cup of yogurt (Fage).  I have a question.  Will I ever be able to eat a meal.  What I mean by that, is actually have a piece of meat, some potato, and veggie.  I get so full so fast, which I know that is the reason I did the surgery.  But we are told to each out protein first, how will you ever be able to get a potato and veggie down? Just was thinking. Patti I appreciate all your thoughts.

Hi Patti,     We all think that same thing in the beginning! I am post op 6 months, I ate small ground sirlion pattie, and veggie salad (about a cup of food chewed up altogether).. Some things will fill you up faster than others. Stay away from things that swell in your pouch such as rice. Had some in a stuffed pepper with a little rice in it; and believe me it made me ache. Yes, often I have a meat and a potatoe; sometimes other veggie.. Where I used to eat 2-3 med potatoes, now eat one small one..LOL! You will get there; and then there will be times that you wonder if your eating to much. Enjoy your honeymoon stage right now. Best wishes, Judy R

Judy, Thanks so much.  I know, I wish this honeymoon stage would last forever.  It's so nice not craving, or being hungry all the time.  Your advice was great and I have something to look forward to.  I still feel sometimes I eat too much...then I add up the calories and laugh.  I cannot eat a lot of yogurt, but I can get 1 cup of skim milk and 3/4 cup of Kashi cereal down in the morning.  I feel this is too much.  I am always in fear of stretching my pouch.  Do you think this much for breakfast is normal.  Then again, I can hardly get a piece of cheese and 2 crackers down....it's weird. Best regards. Patti

I remember Thanksgiving which was three months after surgery.   I could not even have one bite of each thing and i was mad.   It takes a long time after wls to eat more.    At six months you'll eat more, then at about 18 months.    You'll freak out cause it seems like it happened overnight and you'll think you're eating too much.  At three years out i can eat almost like a kids portion.     Don't worry about the potato and veggie    Eat your protein. T hanks Linda, That was a good insight.  I guess this is all going through the stages and understanding the new me.  I really must learn patience.  Something I'm not good at.  I hope I am as successful as you are. Patti

Waving to POOCH!  Hi there .. well yesterday I went to the cook out. They made me this little tiny piece of salmon which was like heaven. Stayed down just fine. What did get to me though was all the water I tried to consume due to heat. I cant do both it seems. Either food works or liquids work. Together... I stink at it. But I was sitting thinking the same thing... will I ever be able to eat like a well rounded meal again? Then again, I looked around me and thought.... who cares! They didnt go through everything I have and their plates are heaping. We have to change our mind sets and eat to live. Hope you are having a nice Sunday Pattie!

Jane, I was thinking of you yesterday.  Glad you had a good time.  Consider that another step toward success.  Socialization is very hard, when it seems like it's centered around food.  I haven't tried salmon yet.  I'll have to do that.  I think I'm batting 100 so far.  Keeping things down and not too much pain.   You have a great attitude.  Keep it up.  I see the scale has moved! Yeah! Hugs

eh.. barley moved..lol...I need to find a happy medium. I have to figure out how to drink fluids AND eat something. I had a shake this morning at 10 and at 2pm feel like I am forcing stuff in no matter what I try. Ugg.... I worry about loosing my hair etc. Well I will just keep at it. Eventually I am sure I will figure it out and find something I can live with. Have a nice day :)
