hello everyone....just curious if anyone in Lansing can give me some insight to area support groups.  I have lived so far away from my center, I never really got involved with support groups.  I would be interested in hearing what is out there in Lansing!  Does anyone have a good doctor they would recommend for a general practitioner?  I am over one year post op and looking for someone who is educated on post op care, preferably a female doctor.  Thanks...look forward to hearing about the Lansing Bariatric community!!!!

Why on earth would you want to leave Alpena?    Congrats for whatever the reason!! Sparrow Regional Med Center in Lansing does RNY, perhaps they might have some insight.  Jenn F from the board here is also in Lansing, as is BrownEyed Rae......perhaps if they read this they can offer suggestions! Wishing you happiness in Lansing-- look me up I'm an hour north of Lansing.........not like from Alpena which is 3 hours North East. Stay in touch! Stacey W

Thanks for the info....much appreciated!  I just found out my bariatric center in Muskegon closed.  No warning or letter, nothing.  I kinda feel abandoned, as I have no place to turn for questions.  Hoping to get into a support group, and help me stay on track!  Thanks again! Joy

Hi Joy! Welcome to Lansing.  I have not been to the group meetings at Sparrow, but would like to start going.  I had issues with the fact that there was a charge.  It wasn't the fact of the nominal fee, it was just that I was upset about having to pay someone to give me support.  I guess I'm over it, lol.  I do go to a support group in my hometown of Leslie once a month, but they take the summers off.  Hopefully they will startup in September. If you ever get a chance to go to MMPC in Grand Rapids, they have awesome meetings. My general practitioner was less than enthusiastic about WLS. My husband and I have tried to bring him around, but he's very old and set in his ways.  I hope you find someone who has lots of experience in weight loss surgery. I'll be here if you ever have questions or need anything.

Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing has a Bariatric Support Group meeting the first Thursday of each month.  I moved to Lansing almost 1 year ago.  I have not gone to a meeting yet.
