Serious sleeping issue's
Hi Gang,
Anyone else having serious sleeping issue's? Very tired but not sleepy mode when I hit my pillow. Then I wake as many as 3-4 times a night; and often take a long time to go back to sleep if ever. I have taken things to help but none seem to work without making me feel drained and yuk if they work at all!! I am exhausted. And can not sleeping keep you on a plateau??? Just looking for answers please sooooo tired.. Hugs, Judy R
You might consider your mattress as a possible cause. I had this problem for some time before my surgery.
I have had a problem with sleeping for quite sometime. I may have to get another mattress - perhaps mine is too firm!
You may wish to make an appointment with your doctor. I will have to see mine within the month and I'm gonna ask him about Rozerem.
I have the same problem. My doctor has tested me for sleep apnea - don't have it. He tested me for a battery of different vitamin deficiences and other medical issues -- all is normal. But I'm still up 4 or 5 times a night and find myself so fatigued throughout the day that it's hard to function sometimes. Who knows what it is, but I'm hoping it's just a phase and I'll get over it eventually.
And to answer your question... yes, poor sleeping habits and not getting enough sleep can effect weight loss/gain. At least that's the studies that I've read for normal (non-WLS) people. I imagine it's probably the same once you have surgery too since your body is concentrating so much on your sleep deprivation that it isn't worried about wieght loss right now.
I wish I had answers for you. But at least you've got my sympathy.

I am world's worse insomnic. I haven't slept more than 2 hours at a stretch in more than 7 or 8 years. It is a horrible habit. I spend most of the night roaming around the house, watching tv, doing laundry, surfing the net, etc., but not sleeping. I have tried everything and nothing works for me including meletonin. My Rheumatologist decided a few months ago that he had the answer for me, he gave me a script for Rozurem. I have tried all the other sleeping pills and they do nothing. Well, Rozurem made me have the most vivid sexual dreams! I am a kinky girl!! Of course the doc thought this was hilarious, thought maybe he should try it. But like I told him, when I did wake up (after only an hour or two), I was so exhausted from all that wild sex, I couldn't go back to sleep! haha
So if anyone can come up with a miracle cure for insomnia, I would be forever grateful. I would like to have normal sleep habits and quit acting like a vampire!!
Judy, I had the same problem. I recently started talking Melatonin, which is over the counter. It works wonderfully, and not groggy the next day. I tried Tylenol Simply Sleep, but left me too groggy. The doctor gave me both Rozerm and Ambien. Scary stuff!! Like taking the pill, then 20 minutes later sitting in my living room, have a detailed, lengthy conversation with a friend, and I have absolutely no recollection of it! that happened twice. Marie
What time are you taking your vitamins? I know if i take mine too late in the day i can't sleep. I have a hard time sleeping anyway, maybe i'll try the melatonin i never heard of it before. Ambien is evil stuff. The last time i took it i sleep walked and took the garbage out and put it in the middle of the street, did dishes, and ate like a moose. LMAO never again!

Sleep hygience is important too. Make sure that you are not doing active things right before bed.....have soothing things going on.....soothing music, reading something light, slow deep breathing, maybe even relaxation tapes to settle you down. no bright lights or tv as you go to sleep. Also, some health care providers say that being able t o fall asleep, but then waking up after a few hours may be a sign of depression. You might want to talk to your doc, maybe being put on an antidepressant might help. I have trouble sleeping too..........so i feel your pain........
Judy,
I recently bought a Memory Foam Mattress Topper from Walmart. It made my bed alot softer and I don't toss and turn nearly as much. You could try the melotonin too - like Marie said. It comes in different mg's too so you can adjust the amount you take. It doesn't leave you with that sluggish feeling in the morning.

Thanks everyone,
Yes I take my vitamins twice daily often at night times! Guess I will rework that theory. I also tested very vitamin deficent in B-1 unreadable, vitamin D, calcium, and a couple others. So I have began taking them religiously! I will try melitonin.. I have been slightly depressed; but before when I was depressed wanted to sleep all the time! I want to thank you all for your support and idea's. Take care, Hugs, Judy R
Hi Judy,
I have a long history of insomnia. I can fall asleep but never reach the REM stage. I wake up several times in the night, and half the time I can't go back to sleep. I have tried almost every remedy available and have decided that this is just the way it's supposed to be for me. When I had my pre-op sleep study, it was revealed that I had mild apnea, but restless legs syndrome was the final result. I guess I moved those suckers 20 some odd times every 15 minutes. I was given yet another prescription remedy, ReQuip; to no avail. I still awakened several times. My brain never seems to shut down. I told my husband to keep the baseball bat nearby and just whack me in the domepiece every night.
