Bored with Food

I am bored with food.  Ice has turned into my new "Food Group"  It's only 12:30 and I've already eaten3 trays of ice and I'm sure I'll have another 4 or 5 before the day is out.  Nothing sounds good to me anymore.  I am not getting in all my protein and I have noticed my hair start to thin out.  As I posted earlier this week, I can't do fruits or veggies and I'm lactose intolerant so all that leaves is meat and carbs.  I thought about getting some BS Chicken Breasts and cubing them up and marinating them in different batches and then making different Kabob's and freezing them.  My boss also said I could do the same with Mahi Mahi and then just throw it on the grill.  I need some ideas because I am getting so bored.  I have lost 7.5 pounds this week, which is a good thing but not because I was eating right....it's from not eating at all!!  Any recipes or food ideas would be greatly appreciated!! Why can't you eat fruits and veggies?  Is it because you cannot tolerate them or you just don't like them?   I too am lactose intolerant, but I generally just eat through it.  (not fun)  However, they have wonderful products on the market that would allow you to consume dairy just fine.  Have you tried soy products or lactaid based milk?  It's a thought.  Also, have you tried medication to allow you to eat dairy?  I know it can be a PITA, but in the long run you will get to enjoy dairy every so often.   As far as new food ideas, I have tons, but most of my dishes that I eat have veggies incorporated into them.   I like to take dishes that I used to love and turn them into low-fat versions so that I can still enjoy them.  Like chicken piccata, chicken marsala, homemade chicken gyro, orzotto (think risotto, but made with orzo pasta instead), homemade soups, stir-fry, grilled salmon, fish tacos (I generally use escolar, tuna, or tilapia and make a homemade fruit salsa), etc.... On the rare occasions I eat red meat, I either eat tenderloin or flank steak.  I don't eat hamburgers or processed meats.   Instead of using the gobs of butter I used to eat, I substitute with chicken stock and flour (or corn starch) to make the bases for sauces.  I use lots of lemon and garlic in my cooking since I love garlic and lemon.  Also, a friend of the family makes and bottles these sauces which I use a lot.  They are fat free and can also be used as marinades.   Another thing you could try is the faux (or real) crab meat.  You can either eat it as is or shred it up and make a crab salad of sorts.

I can't tolerate veggies or fruit  yet.  I can do cooked onions, mushrooms, peppers and tomatoes....like pasta sauces.  But no other veggies.  Fruits also hurt...including sugar free applesauce. It's so wierd.  I am almost a year out.  You would think I would be fine.   I can do faux crab meat and fish but no shell fish because I am allergic.  I can't do pork chops or any type of steak because that also hurts.  I can't do any type of lunch meats because they also upset my stomach.  Eggs, tuna, milk hurt my stomach also.  I am pretty much stuck with chicken....I just have to figure out how to make it so that I don't get bored with the same stuff all the time.  I just get so frustrated that I just don't eat.  I usally make something easy for my 8 year old and just take a few bites for myself or eat some ice.    Thank you for your suggestions!! Hi Stacey,     I can pretty much tolerate most things; but I know what you mean about being bored with food. Now it's seems like a hassel trying to figure out what to eat! I was wondering if you are doing your protein drinks? That is a big factor in our hair falling out! GNC had premixed 50 grand slam in cans I tolerate better than others I have tried! Also at my 6 months post op I was so low on vitamins espically the B; found out just how scary this can be (can cause permanet nerve damage)! I am doing my best to correct all this.  Seafood salad: fake crab flakes, barillia multi grain pasta, hard boiled eggs, onion chopped fine, cerely flakes, and whatever spices you like, 1/2 lowfat sour cream 1/2 c. light miracle whip.  Have you tried ground bologna? Like sands on lo-carb pita bread! Ball park fatfree Beef hotdogs (no after taste), canned ham lunchin meat, refried beans mixed with a little spices or salsa on lo-carb pita, I also use triscut flavored crackers. What about peanutbutter?    My NUT said keep trying different things, because one day it may be just fine! Good luck. Keep us posted, Hugs, Judy R

I know what you are talking about. I could care less about food. I had chicken wings last night and if it wasn't for the fact that I was at Hooters I would have been bored to death. How about shrimp? Chicken wings, fish sticks, omelets, re-fried bean taco/burrito, gyro, soups, lactaid milk, chicken pot pie, bean bread by Anette, low carb spaghetti,,,,,, I'm working hard here. Seriously,,,, lactaid milk or Dairy ease by landolakes worked great for me when I was LI. kp
