I'm just mad!!!
I am 11 months out and still can't eat fruits and vegetables. I thought I would be brave today and have a ceasar side salad with some chicken in it and I am sitting here hurting. This is just crazy. My parents have a huge garden and I can't enjoy any of the fresh veggies. I am just mad!! Even sugar free applesauce hurts my pouch. This is crazy!! Stacey B
Hi Stacey,
Have you looked into the thought that you may have an ulcer or stricture or both? I had this exact problem, and turns out I had an ulcer and a stricture. Never had one of either before surgery!! Please get checked by a good gastroenterologist (one who has dealt with WLS pt.'s).. I was dialated twice to correct my stricture.. I had an ulcer and almost everything I ate bothered me. I wish you the best of luck with you problems! If I can be of anymore help let me know. I don't believe after 11 months you should have that many problems?! Does it hurt right at the top of your stomach; upper rib cage in the middle?? Good luck Stacey. Keep me posted.. Hugs, Judy R
by the way I eat a lot of fruits and veggies now; and I am 6 months post op!!!
Stacey,
I couldn't eat salad and veggies or fruit for the first year or so.
All of us are different and it takes time to incorporate those things into your menu. I started with baby food fruits in the jars and that was tolerable. I still can't eat iceberg lettuce, I have to eat spinach or baby bibb and if I eat romaine, it has to be fresh. As for veggies, I can eat a few bites of this and that, but again, I avoid seeds and skins.
Check with your wls doc and nut about what you should be able to eat and don't get so upset that you can't yet, it all takes time and much patience.
Baby steps, and start small and simple.
Best of luck
Stacey W

I agree that it takes some time to get used to stuff. I can eat pretty much anything except for apples, which seems strange to me, but that's the way it is. Do you have this problem with any kind of salad? It could be the dressing or something the chicken is marinated in if you didn't make it yourself.
Remember when your son was a baby and you had to try each thing slowly to see if he could tolerate it? That's what you'll have to do. One day, try a bananna. If you do ok, then add something else. Experiment with different kinds of lettuce and see what happens.
