What a roller coaster...
On Monday I will be 2 weeks out from my RNY... I don't think all the research in the world could have prepared me for what it was actually like... struggling to get a sip of water? I'd have never imagined it, but those first few days, I sure did struggle... Luckily, I haven't had much pain overall, but on the days I overdid it (running to the store, going to work) my body let me know for sure... I was told i wouldn't be hungry? Nope, not hungry at all... well... not physically hungry, but I sure do battle my head sometimes... it still wants pizza and thai food and veggie burgers with the works... I'm hoping that will pass in the next few weeks as I can slowly add things back to my diet. The protein drinks have got me about ready to punch a wall. lol. I'm so sick of them it's unbelievable... and, yes, it does seem my tastes have changed, at least a little... popsicles are my best friend right now but even those I'm getting sick of... what a crazy ride this is! Right now i'm aching to get cleared to get back to swimming so I can build my strength back up (I should be good to go once those incisions are healed) and pureed foods, which start on the 20th, can't come soon enough... i'd like some protein that actually comes from food. lol
I had to laugh while reading your post. Yes, I went through all the same things you are going through. I had my RNY on 7/6/07. I only do one protein shake a day now....wish I could find a way to eliminate that also..... It is nice eating protein through other foods, I agree. The hunger goes away....although I do go through some head hunger.
Stick at it.....pretty soon you can go back to swimming which will help you forget about the food.

If you don't like protein shakes, why not try unflavored protein (any whey @gnc or unjury?) and put it in your coffee or bake it in something?
It's the only protein supplement I will drink now since most of those shakes call for dairy and I am lactose intolerant.
As for the rollercoaster? I would classify this WLS as the HIMALAYA ride. But hold on, you're not alone and it does get alot easier in time. A LOT.
One day at a time, and baby steps.
Best wishes!

It is so good for me to read your posts! I am feeling the same way you are. It seems like everything that is legal for us to eat or drink right now is sooooo sweet. I want the flavor of food! I loved the Whey protein at first but I am sooo over it. Now I have to gag it down. Pureed foods on Tuesday!!! YEAH
We will make it, we are strong.
