I am new here.  I am trying to find my way around the website.  I know that I have looked up to see if my insurance will cover surgery before, but I can't remember how I did it. Also, I was told that if your insurance doesn't cover surgery, that the state will pay for it? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Hello, I can tell you if you go to the insurance forum for Michigan and click on insurance by state (left column under resources) Click on MI and then look up your insurance and you'll see what they have been like to work with before.  The best way to find out if they cover this is to call and ask, and ask for a copy of your benefits.  They can tell you or by law have to tell you what criteria they set for you to qualify.  First, you need to know if they cover it.  Who is your ins. co?? Never heard of the state paying.  If that were the case none of us would have insurance. LOL.  Hope it helps.  Also you can get more info by posting on the actual insurance forum!  Good Luck, I just got a date after starting the ball rolling last Nov. '06.  Just don't give up, I didn't and it finally came through for me! ~Hugs, Steffanie

Who  ever told you that the state will pay for it is wrong.  Y ou would have to  qualify for the medicaid program and then you have to meet the qualifications and get approved to have the procedure and they are really strict on the medical necessity before they will pay for gastic bypass surgery.   Tricia
