getting too much in?

so monday the 9th was my surgery and the first few days i would take a sip and i could feel it in my chest. they told me that was normal, i was swollen, etc... well now i'm just over a week out and the only guidelines i've been given are keep sip sip sipping all day and i'm worried i'm getting TOO much in now... if i sip, sip, sip, i can get through a glass of water (or crystal light or whatever) in no time flat... the hospital assures me that if i was taking in too much i'd be either throwing up or getting sick, and i'm not... but shouldn't i be feeling that fullness in my chest after a few sips? i remember them saying my pouch would be the size of a thumb after surgery and i feel like at times i definitely get more than a thumb's worth of fluids... could my pouch already be big enough to hold 2 or 3 ounces? i go back to see my surgeon monday, but i'm a little freaked!

I think about it this way....My stomach is like a funnel now....Water and fluid go right down but meats sit for a little bit then move.....

What Crystal said, and also, the restriction you felt may well come back.  mine came and went, maybe because of healing nerves.

I had my surgery on the 6th of July.  I asked the same question.  She said I  couldn't stretch my pouch with liquids.  What I do feel if I sip too fast is a fullness....so I slow down.  Today, I drank my protein drink faster then normal...yuck....but I wanted it to go away...I'm so tired of protein drinks, anyway, I got the hic-cups. Don't worry, you're doing just fine...just go slow. Patti

I sure hope it is normal, because I am experiencing the same thing.  I also feel gurgling all day long, and like I should be burping only I can't.  My surgery was the day after yours, and you make me feel better knowing that you are experiencing the same thing.  Maybe we are just quick healers and won't have that real uncomfortable feeling. Take care, Bobbi

You will know it when you over do it.....I have a couple times and it is not comfortable at all. I think that you are doing great and I remember how different everything felt.....You will find your own groove... I hope other than this everything is going great..

Here's how weird I got the first two weeks after surgery - I began to wonder if the had actually done the bypass or not. (I have an incision from sternum to belly button! ) But I was able to drink so much with out ever feeling full, just like you said.  It is great to be able to discuss these things with each other and realize that we are going through the same things.  Is your appointment on Monday with Dr Schram? I have my six week appt. with him Monday at 4:00 in Ypsilante.  I hope your appointment goes well!
