I gave up chewing gum, as I always swallowed it,  but was at a funeral home today, and had a piece of gum in my mouth, and swallowed it.  Has anyone ever done that, will it go through, or am I going to get a really bad pain, or what.  I'm a little nervous here. please advise.  thanks JO

I don't know what will happen but please post if anything does.  I'm a big gum chewer but I usually don't swallow it and I've wondered what it would do since we don't have stomach acid to dissolve it.

Please let us know if it passed or desolved.  Have you called your Dr. or Nut?

You will slightly digest it. It may get stuck though so be very careful and observant. Drink water like crazy and stay away from any solid food for a while. Go back to full liquids and take a stool softener. Any pain call your Dr. kp

I was told to NEVER chew gum because you might swallow it.  They also said that if you do swallow it you would have to have it surgically removed.  I would call the Dr's office ASAP. Best Wishes! Stacey B

Thank God I didn't have any problems with the gum, although I will NEVER do it again.  Next time if my mouth feels yucky, I will use some mouthwash.  I went to my Aunts Funeral today, and the luncheon afterward and did very will with my eating.  It was my first real trip out to eat somewhere since my surgery.  The only problem with it, was they served the protien last.  But that's what I waited for, and didn't have any pain, and stopped when I felt full.  I'm really proud of myself.   JO
