Today I meet with the Surgeon to get things started. I have the letter from my PCP, Echo,EKG,Chest XRays done already. Just have to do my psych evaluation. I'm a nervous wreck. This site sure has helped me with lots of questions I had by reading other people's stories. Keep your fingers, toes and any other body parts crossed for me. Thanks! ~Kara

My fingers & toes are crossed. You'll do just fine. You're heading into the home stretch now.

I'm going to ask him today which one he prefers. I can either have it at St Joes in Pontiac of North Oakland. They had a bariatric center in N.O. but they closed it last year due to lack of funding. I'm just wondering if maybe it's still a better option since the nursing staff should be more knowledgable with WLS. I'll see what he says today. I just hope with all my other medical issues they don't give me a problem with approval. I have a heart condition I was born with and had the valve repaired in 82, I've had a spinal fusion in 99 and last year I was diagnosed with High BP. And my cholesterol is up a little last week. So this surgery will definately help put less work on my heart and help with my back problems. My PCP is still working on the letter to make sure it's perfect so I don't have any problems with approval. I will let ya know how things go when I get home today. My appt. is at 3:15 and this morning is going by so slow..lol Hopefully one day we can meet since you live so close. Thanks! Kara

You go girl. I just resently got my date Feb. 05. On your psych eval the most important thing they ask is why are you doing this: good answer, quaility of life, I want to live longer and healthier, I want a lot more out of my life than what I have now. It is not as bad as you might think.. Actually even with my nerves I found this the easiest part! I am a 47 year old wife, mom & grandma. I live near flint, mi. Good luck with all of it, keep us posted.. Sincerely best wishes and good luck, Judy R.

Thanks Everyone. The appt. with the Surgeon went good, I actually weighed 10 lbs less an their scale than my own..lol I was liking that until he said I want you to try and lose 10 lbs before surgery. That's one thing I don't understand. I see so many other people who are bigger than I am to start and they still do the surgery. Can someone explain this? I go on Wednesday(31st) for my Psych Evaluation. I'm a bit nervous, but I'm not too concerned. When I called to make the appt. I joked around with him and told him I need an appt. to see if I'm insane. He laughed. So once I get that done he will have the letter to the Dr. the next day than the paperwork will be submitted to insurance and I will get a tenative surgery date. Lady at the Dr's office told me my insurance co. is usually quick with their response, usually a week or two. I went to Meijer tonight and bought a variety of protein bars to try out and yogurt. I know everyone is different and taste changes afterwards, but can anyone tell me some things I should buy before the surgery to have when I'm done? I know I will be stocking up on bottled water. Hope everyone has a good weekend! Kara
