How soon after surgery did you have fruit? I am 4 1/2 months out and I can't eat any type of fruit. I SF applesauce and with 1/2 hour I am running to the bathroom. I also tried 100% Apple Juice by Juicy Juice and again I have been running to the bathroom all morning. I can't seem to keep anything in me when I have fruit. I also Lite Canned Peaches and Pineapple and I have the same problem. Stacey B

Hi Stacey, I had the same problems with applesauce. It made me dump.....bad. Any fruit that I ate did. Natural sugars.....I think our bodies still can't adjust to them. My recommendation is avoid applesauce, and canned fruits -- look at the sugar labels. Juicy Juice may be real fruit juice but the sugar content alone can make anyone dump. It's possible it's the apple. I tried baby bananas at first, they are small, and though they cost more, it was ok to eat one now and then. I never have had an orange except for mandarin oranges washed off from the can, (can't digest the membranes of oranges) and suggest speaking to your NUT about what fruits you may be able to tolerate. I'm a big pear lover, Bosch pears. But their so grainy, I have never touched one since WLS. I cannot eat skins of any fruits, but each of us handle foods differently. Again, ask your NUT. Wishing you the best! Stacey W

Hmmm...I have to really think back. I'm thinking that 2 months out I was eating watermelon. That seemed to be okay and it's mostly water. Have you tried eating frozen grapes? That works well for me. Bananas are good too. Julie

I have had no problems with any fruits- canned, fresh or frozen- since surgery. Everyone is different. The only thing I have to be careful with is white membrane on an orange. I try to remove as much as possible and I have to chew the orange very well. But other than that, it doesn't bother me at all. I've been eating fruits since early on after surgery. I took my meds, crushed, in applesauce for a long time. I used frozen and fresh fruits in my protein drinks. Talk to a nutritionist....get their advice. Everyone is different in what they can or cannot handle. Tina

As soon as I could have pureed foods I ate strawberries blended in my protein drinks with no problem. Strawberries are low on the glycemic scale as is cantaloupe. Apples, pineapple, watermelon - all are on the higher end of the glycemic scale so I didn't try those until I was closer to 6 months out (didn't have any problem with them). I did drink juice while I was on liquids but I diluted it by half with water. I strongly suspect that I'm a "non-dumper." Although I haven't tried anything with sugar, I have never dumped from any kind of fruit or fruit juice - - I have actually never dumped at all. But the fear of finding out first hand what dumping is like is what keeps me from being tempted by anything with sugar. I made it through Halloween, Thanksgiving and the Christmas/New Years holidays without trying one piece of chocolate which is a landmark record for me

Well, personally I haven't dumped. I am 3 weeks out and I can tolerate strawberries, no sugar added applesauce and No sugar added fruit juices just fine. I have a feeling I will be a non dumper. I have been pretty adventurous with food thus far with no dumping. But like everyone else I am afraid to find out what will send me "running to the bathroom" -T

Hi Stacey I've always done fresh fruits and carb clever fruit ****tail great, but not applesauce or other canned fruit. My nut gave me a list of serving sizes for the fruit, the only one i remember was 15 grapes was one serving. Now i eat one serving of grapes and one serving of apples a day, those are my snacks. If i don't eat fruit every single day i get a bad pain in my tummy and get constipated. i think it was three months out that i was given the ok for fruit, my favorite then was watermelon . Try the fresh fruits and let me know how they are for you. Hugs Linda

* Hijack * Hey Linda - Do you freeze those grapes??? I LOVE frozen grapes!!!!!! Haven't had any in a while because they cost to darn much but just reading your post has got me wanting some frozen grapes now. I freeze them in snack bags counted out so I don't eat too many and get sick. Laurie

Hi Laurie Ya know, i've never even tried frozen grapes, i'm gonna do that today. Farmer jack has grapes .99 a pound, so i got lots of grapes. They also have starfruit 2 for a dollar, and those are good too. Hugs Linda

I have been eating applesauce and bananas for about a month now ( I am 2 months out).... I did try pineapple the other day and that didn't sit well.... I guess it all depends on the individual. I see that a lot of people can't eat sf applesauce, while I can.... Don't know what to tell you. Good Luck... Shawn M.
